Hey fella's. I want to upgrade my ram. I'm currently running 3 gigs and at system idle my rig is using half.

Not sure how much I need. Any reccommendations? Price range would be around $50 to $75

My specs:

I7-920 processor 2.66ghz overclocked to 3.4
Asus P6T MOBO
3 GB DDR3-10600 PC3-1333
SEAGATE 500GB SATA hard drive
XFX RADEON PCX HD5850 Vid card
ANTEC 750 WATT TRUE BLUE POWER SUPPLY
WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM 64 BIT.

Sigh, triple channel system makes me lol. 50 to 75 bucks can buy plenty of ram. I spent 100 on my 16GB 1 year ago. But memory prices have started going up.

1333 is officially the top speed of DDR3 anything over is considered an "Overclock". 1600mhz is common and cheap and assuming the board supports Intel's XMP you can easily set the ram to its designed speed otherwise it will default to 1333.

I went with Corsair Vengeance it was recommended by Corsair if your running Intel. Ive seen plenty of people using Corsair's Dominator with that generation of Intel but that was usually recommended for AMD.

As far as amount 3 is kinda low lol. 6 ought to be enough. On newer (or non triple channel) we usually say 8 because we run sticks in pairs most of the time. I rarely go over 8 and the only time I even come close is when I am doing a certain encoding, compressing tasks. For gaming a 6 GB triple channel kit which I am sure a member here has one laying around should be good.

I've got 2 sets of 3x2GB (6gb) DDR3 1600 if you're interested. One set is G. Skill 9-9-9-24 but runs at 8-8-8-21@ 1.6v the other is Corsair XMS 7-7-7-20 @1.6v

3 GB is too little IMO if you want more, now's the time to get it and you can run dual channel memory with your X58 MB, no speed difference between that and tri-channel memory so get whatever you want. Just remember that on the X58's if you OC the more RAM you have the more stress it puts on the CPU which could mean BSOD and instability. 12GB for the X58 is as high as I would go.

Would you take a lightly used AmoryWarHero in trade for the G.Skill set?

How much you want for the corsair, six?

And how much for the G.Skill? It matches what I have in this machine.

Or, we can take it out in trade. *wink*

Get the corsair and run. :-)

I don't know about G.skill, but I can vouch that the corsair sticks are quality, and actually runs at those timings and voltage without problems. I have the exact same memory, been using it for 2+ years now (almost 3) ^_^ .

I have 2x2GB of G.Skill right now and they preform flawlessly.

I'm buying the corsair from six. Thanks for all the suggestions guys.
