Looks like the "GTX 980" is a lame ass POS

So we have projections by one tech site claiming that the 980 is barely faster, like 7%, than the 780 TI. It's all still rumor, but about what I expected so far...we'll see in about 10 days I guess.

Interesting. Still would be a nice boost from my GTX 770 2GB, though not sure there are any games that will cause me to get it.
 
Well the problem is its being compared to the 780 Ti. Its a mile ahead of the 780. So when you compare the 980 Ti to the 780 Ti you might have an argument. Until then :p

If the price is comparable to the 780 and below the 780 Ti then you can't complain. If the power consumption is lower can't complain there either.

Bullshit. This totally fucks what Nvidia has done previously. When they did their premier card of x80 it was always 20% or more faster than the previous generation. Find me a year when that didn't happen, cause' I don't ever recall that happening before. Anyway, I know they're just looking to fill the coffers for the holiday season, but if these numbers hold up, they've shot themselves in the foot big time as far as I'm concerned.
 
I am think realistically it will be between 7 and 15%. Nvidia would hold back on what their new chip would do as they don't want to give away their possible triumph card.

Plus with these sites, I don't trust any data until the real deal comes out and legit sites like anandtech and tech republic do a full on review.

They've been pretty damn good with the numbers previously and I wouldn't call anandtech a legit site...way too biased on their reviews in a lot of areas.

How is it bullshit? Where was the 680 Ti? Its a different ballgame now that they decided to segment the shit out of their cards.

980 > 780
980 => 780 Ti
980 Ti > 780 Ti

The 980 should be compared to the 780 and not the 780 Ti until such a time they announce the 980 will be the top end card period. Im assuming there will be at least one higher card than the 980, if not 3 of them :p
 
Oh and looks like a 29% change between the 780 and the 980. So it didn't fail to disappoint this year either :p
 
Meh, still bullshit. But you're right that since they started to shit out cards twice a year it's a pain in the ass. So now I wonder 980TI is that the actual Maxwell?

Yeah the questions are: will it exist, when will they finally come out with it, how much will it cost, when will they come out with yet another edition of it.
 
They've loved them some 6 month cycles for quite some time--what I'm curious is how this will scale with Intel's Broadwell, and the metric fuckton of new instructions it brings. The more i read about this is it's a replacement for the 780 GTX, not the Ti, and initial offerings will have 4 gb of GDDR5, while later versions will have 8.

Wtf Nvidia.

waiting for the gaming benchmarks and the Ti version a month or so after launch
 
I hate to be *that* guy, but this day and age where a bad ping is an advantage, this time around I feel justified: what game on the horizon will utilize this/these cards? It certainly isn't Battlefield (fuck you in the goat ass "HARDLINE"). Sims 4?
 
If it's enough of a performance upgrade for me to even bother then I'd consider. Right now one of my 290x's maximizes everything no problem.

How about BF4 and a 1440P monitor at 144hz?
