My questions is just that, what exactly would be the benefits from a mechanical keyboard?

I currently use a Microsoft 5000 Keyboard and a Logitech G700 mouse. I do not like controllers, unless it is driving games, but I mostly play BF4 type games. I also use a Belkin n52te and the mouse keyboard combo for gaming.

Besides what Bob said, the quality is much better, keys are replaceable and they are built like tanks. Average weight for a mechanical keyboard is probably 2.5-3.0lbs. You can type faster on them, I'm more accurate with them when typing, and I just got tired of the Logitech and Microsoft keyboards dying on me after a couple of years. I've had a mechanical one now for about 6 years and it still is just as responsive and impressive as the day I got it. Then again, I type like I'm angry at the keys and tend to mash them pretty hard :)

For me its just dependability I bought a razer a few years back and a few keys just stopped working after 2 years. Its too bad I really like there boards.

I type WAY faster now than I did before I got the mechanical keyboard. I find mech. kb with the Cherry Brown MX switches to be best. Perfect balance for work and play. I would have a hard time going back to a non-mech for work and play.

Here is a great place to learn more about the science of Mechanical keyboards:

There is a mechanic replacement to the Belkin n52te. However unlike the Nostromo or n52te it has no scrollwheel on it.

This is what me and Samoedday use:

This is the mechanical replacement which while ergonomic as fuck is in the price range of a mechanical keyboard:

I have always wanted to try one of those. Never really had the money for it.

Once you find the right switches for you, you'll never go back to rubber dome keyboards.

I use cherry red and blacks.

Yeah, I could never go back to a regular one either. I love the red switches, browns are good too, but noisier.

What are some links for the ones you recommend? Thank you. I see there are alot of different brands and ones I have never heard of.

Personally, I'd stay away from the Razer ones, but that's because not just me, but Chuck also developed tendinitis while using their keyboards previously...which went away immediately after switching to a different brand.

I currently have the Corsair K70 and it's a damned good keyboard with 3 levels of brightness to the red leds on each key. The Das keyboards are also top notch in my opinion. Like you said, there are many brands, but I focus on the ones with leds in them mostly, but that's a matter of taste.

I got a Corsair K95 one couple weeks back was really good till it stopped working 2 days ago.

I've used normal keyboards and mechanical keyboards, the main difference i find is just the feel of using one. They feel so much better. Then annoying thing is that must of them are fucking loud as hell. So if you have any one trying to sleep in the room next to you, be warned they may be pissed at you the next morning lol.

That depends, the browns and blacks are pretty quiet, but the blues are loud and clacky. Also, playing games the mechanical you get 7 key rollover without issue which is not the case on the rubber domed ones. They also have mechanical ones with rubber domes that are quiet, just don't feel the same as a regular mechanical keyboard.
