The system I am running now, is dogging badly. I believe my video card is going now, as in game I will get a strange cornucopia color effect across the game (hard to describe), anyway I won't be able to see the screen and have to exit.

This is what I am running now, it is a 4 year old system I built:

Intel DZ68DB LGA Socket 1155 Motherboard
EVGA GeForce GTX570 HD Video Card w/ 2560 MB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 DirectX 11
Silent Pro Gold 1200w 80 Plus Gold Certified Power Supply
Corsair Vegeance DDR3 PC3-12,800 1600Mhz / 9-9-9-24 CAS Latency Memory (16G Total) Intel XMP Ready
WD Black WD1502FAEX 1.5TB Hard Drive 3.5 SATA 7200 RPM 64MB Cache
Intel Core I7-2600K QuadCore 8MB L3 Cache, 1MB L2 Cache, 3.4 Ghz
PCIe SB X-Fi Titanium Fatality Pro Series Sound card

These are what I am looking at right now:

This one is 100.00 cheaper, but isn't bundled with the memory. So I like the first one better.

Again, your guys input is always appreciated. Thanks

Motherboard and CPU are a good choice, I prefer Asus boards over Gigabyte though. What video card you going for? I would probably save my money on the memory and spend it on an SSD if you don't already have one.

Yep that could be a problem, thankfully we have our own accounts and just a joint one for morgage payments.

Something else I try when all else fails is "well I can get these upgrade parts now and save money in the future as I won't need a whole new system"

What CPU cooler do you have? Do you plan on overclocking this new build?

I was thinking of going with liquid cooling. The 1150 board I have now, which is what the new build is, has issues with a large heatsink+fan. The DIMM slots are so close to the CPU slot that you cannot get dual fans on the cpu and the heat disperser on the memory modules actually rub.

However I am terrified of screwing up installing liquid cooling and what the consequences would be of a failed install of using liquid....

I would be happy to help you out without any info or questions you may have doing a custom watercooled loop, I've got plenty of experience. It's pretty easy just takes some planning.

You can see mine posted in the "post your system thread"

I'm with Sixer. If that was me I would buy a nice SSD and GPU and call it good till the next Generation of Intel Processors drop this year. Depending on your $$ I would honestly go with a EVGA 970 and then you have the option to use their Step UP program and get a 980 if you choose to with in 90 Days. Your I7/PSU/MoBo are fine and I'll guarantee you won't see a HUGE jump going to a 4790k . So with that get a SSD and a 970 so you can make it easier on the wife talk and you will be extremely happy. Then again if you want to drop $3,000+ on a system head on over to my thread and copy my build. lol

I would go with sixer on this. Get a new GPU and SSD and wait for another processor; games will run just fine and then the upgrade pain is spread out as the GPU and SSD will migrate to a newer build easily.
