Well, my GPU decided to take a dump on me Sunday, tried new drivers, threw it in roomies rig, no go. Tried the oven trick tonight after work, no go. So out of aggravation and it being an ancient E6600/8800 GTX, and getting crap FPS, slow rendering, etc., I ordered a new rig. Was really wanting to wait for Sandy Bridge, but the good stuff doesn't come out until Q4 2011 :( Should be up and running by Friday, Saturday at the latest. Kinda excited, will post pics :) God I'm such a nerd. Water cooling will be next month, stuck on which rad to get, Black Ice or Feser, I have to take measurements (HAF 932, pretty sure anything will fit lol). Sorry for rambling, just excited.

Get swiftech, they're a LOT cheaper for not much less performance. See skinneelabs.com for reviews and how little the difference is.

Everything will be Swiftech with the exception of the GPU block and rad, they make great stuff. Want to keep 1 loop, that's the choice that's frustrating me. Oh yeah, the parts lol, forgot:
980x/XFX 5970/Asus Rampage III/Silverstone ST1000-P/80Gig Intel SSD/6Gig Corsair Dominator 1600/Windows ME
Pretty sure I'm going to have to have 2 loops to get silly with the overclocks :(

Heatsurge--skineelabs is awesome, he does great reviews.

Hold up Zappy. You had me at hello...until Windows ME??? With all that nice hardware you're going to stifle it with ME and your SSD???? Don't do it, it'll stutter and stall and drive you crazy.

BTW, put up some pics when you get a chance.

lol was just seeing if anyone would catch that ;) I had ME back in the day, God what a buggy OS. Guess that's why Vista didn't bother me so much lol Nope, 64 bit Win7 for this rig :)

Asshole! I'm glad you're getting Win7 64. It's run everything very well for me and your SSD will fly with that OS.

My only experience with Win7 is when Sgtdeadred built his rig, very nice OS. I do have a question, is the TRIM command in the bios, or somewhere in Win7? I know with SSD's you are supposed to disable defrag and drive indexing, but unsure where the hell the TRIM option is. I could look it up but I'm lazy and have to get ready for work.

It's supposed to be part of the OS. I've never bothered looking in the registry and have not noticed any slow downs on my SSD despite what I keep reading in the press.

About time. We have built two rigs for me since your last build! At least mine will run Windows ME...LOL

Windows ME sucked so much balls. Win 98 FTW... until XP came out and everyone switched to it.

Delivered @ 1 pm or so today. Gots to work on my cable management, but that has been the least of my worries lol. Bios was giving me fits, flashed to 2 different ones before I found one that would read my damn memory right, THEN forgot to load the XMP profile in the bios, was about ready to stab myself in the eye, THEN discovered to my dismay my 50 ft cat5 cable is borked somewhere, had to re-locate closer to the modem, had an issue with the GPU and case, etc. Sigh....anyway

Was very pleased at the temps on air, Zalman CNPS9700. I've used these many times, first time I actually "tinted" the heatsink, seems to work. Going water in a month or so anyway, but still impressed (ambiet at the time of the ss was 77f). 12v rail is dead steady on the PS, chip is running default @ 1.143 volts. Will clock it some after a few days. Didn't look at the batch # yet, too excited lol. Currently downloading BC2 @ 682 kbs :( among other stupid things. Pretty fast rig, weird to open task manager and see 12 threads.

Ran 3dVantage, Sandra, and some other benchies more to test system stability than "gee, what do I score?" Windows Experience Index is 7.4 (hard drive). Will be doing alot more goofing of on it tomorrow.

Oh, and if you don't own a SSD, get one. Or two.

Im glad you guys have a clue as to what your talking bout...I don't understand half that shit...lol

Nah, it's like any other hobby with the abbreviations and whatnot. A few of us here are military, so acronyms are a way of life. Hell, I'm just happy if it plugs in and works most the time :)
