Okay so while at work we had a PC with a blown video card, a few caps popped and it wasn't working, the fan came on but no video post. So I looked up replacement caps for it I went with Panasonic because they were recommended as a better replacement for the ones that came with it. So I am waiting on them to come in and I will start de-soldering the bad caps tomorrow.

Anyone else ever tried this and had/not have success?
I have seen plenty of people bake their's back to life but this isn't a lose solder issue.

I can't believe you'd buy parts and spend time fixing it. For such a cheap card, I'd scrap it and buy a ... 5770 or something...

But if you're into it I guess.

I have a 5850 already. I just want to try my hand at it. Its a decent card for my secondary PC, it basically just does accounting. I just want to try and fix it :P

Every time I have ever had anything will leaking or bulging caps that stopped working, replacing the caps has always fixed the problem. I just fixed an LCD monitor by replacing three caps.

I say go for it!

Well, it took awhile to do but I got the new caps in where the ones were popped and the system is up and running, installing drivers to see if 3D works. If all goes well I may replace the others too as I bought the caps for them too.

I love fixing stuff. I don't care what it is. It's always more fun to take on the challenge and get something working again rather than busting out the cc first. The newest stuff isn't always better nor does it give you any advantage always.

Well I got it installed and 3D is working fine.
So +1 video cards for amazon. I am thinking about putting it in my current system so I can have 4 monitors and have the 4th one display Vent n stuff.

I wish I had 2 monitors for crying out loud. Makes multi-tasking so much easier :).
