i am trying to do a build for my friend. he is bulding it for bf4 and wants something not over 500 if possible. he has ram and the price needs to include a hd, video card, mother board, processor, case, power supply, and 4 fans.

he has 4 gigs of corsair vegence ram ddr3

500 will likely be rough. I'd spend 250 on the damn video card.

HD resolutions won't be a problem and bf3 actually looked good on low settings in 1080p. But BF4 will be more demanding. Lower midrange cards seem to fit the budget here like a 650 TI but your talking a card that probably will achieve medium settings in BF4. Its generally a waste of money unless its your only option to play.

Dunno about the and offerings but here is a hot tip. The boost version of the 650 TI that performs close to the 660 non to is going for 169 bucks. The boost version has a better memory interface which is the weak point in the 650 model.

I got close... if you have a copy of windows taken care of then you can get it down below $500 in which case I'd spend the extra $40-$50 on the graphics card (warning this is a bear minimum computer I'm not responsible if it runs bf4 terribly) but if my piece of shit from 2008 can run bf3 then this should be fine. The important things you want are a quad core don't downgrade to dual! and a graphics card that can run more than the original Doom

AMD FX-6350, PNY GeForce GTX 650 Ti, Thermaltake VM30001W2Z - Ultra Budget - Tasty13's Saved Part List - PCPartPicker

You get what you pay for...

Snake's right. You can do it, but you'll have a shit build that will barely run anything...kind of like a console now that I think about it :)

shit, I spent 4oo on PSU/case/fans >.<...but then again, my budget differs a little. Some components out there will get you decent performance on a budget, but yer buddy should save up and drop at least 800 on a machine...

For $400, might as well have gone water cooling -_- ... radiators 'n' shit will cost you that much...

we shall see what kind of temps i run when i overclock....depending on results, i may look into it. if 7 fans cant distribute some air, ill be damned

He said PSU case and fans. Case could be 200 and PSU could be 150 its not like he spent that much on cooling :p

Its easy to overpay on fans though. Most of myne are like 3 bucks a price buying from a crate sale its that 200mm that's a killer.

ya he is just getting into pc gaming and wants it done by the time bf4 comes out since all of his friends inculding me are on pc now he wont have anyone to play xbox with lol
and he owns a mac atm cause he does music so he dosent have any pc stuff besides ram

Yeah I'd tell him to save up a bit more money I was more trying to show it could be done lol

OK yeah nevermind, I didn't see the "PSU" part... I thought $400 is a bit much for fans :-P .

Hell yea lol. 25 for the Zalman 200mm to me was crazy. I only bought that specific one because the claim the case fan was 230mm and they're didn't seem to be such a thing. Now that I know its 200 I'm grabbing a cheaper replacement.

This fan is only supposed to last 6 months before it self destructs. 1 year it started hitting blades. Been 2 years now as long as I don't turn it off lol. Power outages mean holding the fan together during boot.

yea, case came with 5 stock fans(was like 160), I purchased a 230mm and a 2 120mm fans for like combined 30 bucks...PSU was 180....dont forget shipping! fucking assholes..should be free shipping when orders are over 300 bucks

Newegg Preferred Account: I built my PC a few years ago with little to no money via my access to an awesome Newegg credit line. 2yrs no interest at the time = easy pay off. Buy it all at once with credit or use cash to build it one piece at a time.

My brother is going through the same thing, wants a nice PC for BF4 etc, but no access to credit and poor income. I showed him Ebay and now he is buying parts piecemeal. I SLI 2xEVGA GTX 560Ti Fermis and can play everything. The standard 560 Ti's go for around $100 on Ebay right now.
My $0.02.
