I wouldn't worry too much about this, I read the draft that was released this past Summer and based on the verbiage in that document and quote by Schmidt in the article, this won't be mandatory and you don't have to have credentials unless you want to. . I also notice they are still insisting that there won't be a centralized database and that it would require the private sector and not the government to implement it. Like they mention in the article digital IDs would seemed geared towards safeguarding financial transactions.
Could you imagine what would happen to porn and even game hackers if this was more like a national internet id system that could track the end use to their log like a social security number. It wouldn't stop folks from other countries but if you live in a US territory your screwed...lol
