so start of this week some utility company has been all over my small lil town. I asked around what the hell they were doing. I heard someone mutter something about laying fiber optic. then it hit me someone said something about a 1gig internet service being rumored to be on its way soon. im only 2 hours north of KC that is what, one of few cities running the insane google fiber? they said the name of the company and it wasn't google but either way. if that's the case itll turn me back into a 5 year old on xmas morning, even if it takes a bit past that

Just remember like all the fools that are getting 1 Gbps internet from google. Its Residential class internet. If you are really lucky you will hit near 1 Gbps in a speed test. But in real life even when your downloading from a server that can feed you a file as fast as you can take it. You probably wont see much of a difference between it and 150 Meg Business Class cable.

Shit as long as its fast and cheap, I will take it... wait a second.

well im getting about 50-55 mbps now and that's the top of the line for where im at. and it does the job just fine doesn't mean I don't like fun fancy with the times things. and nice avatar change @Zappypants

Fuck I have 25 Mbps. Used to have 100 Mbps, but I downgraded. You really don't need more than 50unless your constantly downloading shit.

not married but have lady friend her tablet the smart tv with Netflix 2 phones 3 of hers are always going even though Ive asked to please only use 2 at the same time max. the only other option around here is 6mbs or 10 so ill opt for the 50mbs. plus if I take off the cable company splitter and replace with generic I get some cable tv as well.

As an aerial and underground lineman. I'll tell you this. Fiber has been hanging since the 60's and is the back bone of the telecommunications. So I've seen it all day going hub to hub.

Years ago I was train to weld it at the homes but as soon as I was train. Was as fast as it never happen. So anytime I hear fiber coming to the home. I just roll my eye's.

What I've come to learn is that to bring fiber to your door will raise the bottom end of speed. There not going to make you net faster for free. Not for the guy at the bottom. Plus residential installs would be a mother. If the whole system had to be re installed. They don't put a metal strip in it. So locating it is impossible. We've bored threw some fiber lines that were not suppose to be there and were located (but you cant locate it) by a locating company.

Verizon has the best line of the group and AT&T is the worst. AT&T is a joke. I don't know how they keep that dead horse alive. Haven't seen the Google fiber but there is only a couple of company's that make it. So I'm sure is the same. It's just not being spliced into a hub and out coaxial like comcrap.

Yeah, Google fiber is still expanding slowly for us here. From people I know who have it rain it is very nice. It is true that a lot of things won't benefit from it because the providers can't get it to you faster. However for homes with lots of electronic users it is nice to not compete or restrict bandwidth.

I remember when I was patiently waiting for Verizon's FIOS to reach my area. Now its meh and anxiously waiting for Google to reach my area.
