One For The Anti-Gun People Out There

worst part about shooting LMGs/Crew Serve weapons......fucking brass.....I always seem to end up gathering more brass than fired >.<!

Officials tested 10 each of the four carbine models, firing a total of 60,000 rounds per model. Here's how they ranked, according to the total number of times each model stopped firing:

• XM8: 127 stoppages.

• MK16 SCAR Light: 226 stoppages.

• 416: 233 stoppages.

• M4: 882 stoppages
too bad the XM8 cost too much! woulda loved it if DoD closed that deal

fuck man, I must have spent around 40hours(combined) cleaning my "big bitch cockaroach" during our mobilization...wholly fuck! The carbon that gets caked up if dirtbags dont clean properly on a 240 is INSANE.

Even better, having to take out tracers out of belts for around 60k rounds

I dont know, maybe it was active duty army hating on nasty girls, but the explanation given, was Fire Hazard, it was windy, and raining.....so yea, maybe a bit of both. Didnt make much sense, why else would range control give you a water bucket and some floppy rubber on a stick? Tough to engage 800m targets, iron sights, no tracers......

Former high-speed/low-drag weapons expert here,
I don't recommend barrel changes on an M4/M16 and I don't think the unit armorer would either. However, for the M249 and M240B, I highly recommend a barrel change every 10 minutes using a sustained rate of fire.
I melted the bag for a brand new barrel when we got our first shipment of 240G's, thought the bag was leather...
Also I call bullshit on that 60,000 round comparison test. Like a lot of the guys here I've put thousands of rounds through AR platforms and I doubt I've had more than a couple dozen jams. And for what it's worth the AR bolt does turn to lock just a little bit.

If they didnt clean the platforms at all the whole 60krounds, I could see them jamming up that much, but if they cleaned them every 5krounds or so, shouldnt have issues with jams, the issues lie with the brass and mags.

Absolutely 100% dead on with that, I don't think I've EVER had a carbon fouled misfire it's just that every once in a blue moon a round might not be fully seated in the mag and feed off center. Every AR/M16 jam I've ever had has been on brass feeding.
