Nothing wrong with prepping for something that would seem plausible.
Anything is plausible. It happens a lot faster than you think too. This has nothing to do with war, missiles or doomsday but:
My girlfriends parents have propane heating (water and furnace) and cooking. They have a 2000 pound tank. They bought propane at $1 a pound and had bought 4000 pounds. A little more than a years worth. Winter takes about 2000 pounds in Minnesota for most people I know. They had a 1000 pounds owed to them still at the beginning of the winter. So they still needed at least 1000 pounds. It's still May and we still have temps below 50 here. Long winter, so they probably needed another 1000 pounds. Propane went up to $4 a pound this winter. So not being prepared cost them somewhere between $4000 and $8000 dollars instead of $1000 or $2000. That's a 400% increase. Propane goes up every winter but not by dollars.
They have money and no kids (Lawyer and retired pilot) but for someone who has a regular job...that means no heat, shower, cooking. We are in the process of buying a house and we are looking at getting land. % - 10 Acres with a house 30 miles north of Minneapolis. We never thought about this before we started. We are having to make sure all the appliances, furnace, water heater are as efficient as possible. We have 4 kids between us and they like to shower for 25 minutes a time. That's a lot of propane. We have already done research so we can get off propane as much as possible. It just wasn't an expense we had considered when we started looking.

Here's an example for those not familiar with how much a propane tank holds. The Propane tanks for a gas grill holds 25 pounds. They usually cost $25 or $30 to fill...this winter they were $100 or over.

i have a geigerrig that filters swamp water into drinkable water, it is the bag i will use for hiking, and therefore it holds everything i may need for a day or two should i get lost

I always keep a few boxes of MREs and cases of water, and purification tablets and a trauma kit(sadly no antibiotics), and my bugout bag should something go awry. If shit really hit the
fan, I am capable of gathering what I need to keep moving and survive. Medicines being the key(horses coming in short second)...you can find water...you can find food (unless nuclear holocaust, then we are all fucked)....Antibiotics, vitamins, and a few others that might come in handy should an impromptu bout of diplomacy should arise. You cant stay in one spot until you are hundreds of miles from any form of civilization, but you should only be there with all supplies(and non fossil fuel transportation) you need to get a self sustaining AO established.

Antibiotics are found at pet stores, agway, tractor supply. The same stuff used for our pets and livestock can be converted into use for humans on most items.
