RAM speed CAS latency arguement ends here!

Ram speed is pointless in a gaming conversation. Which is probably what you have alot of. But also Speed versus Latency is a different argument then just overclocking (or faster stock clocked) at the same latency.

I use my hardware for more than gaming and memory speed is of use in some areas. It does affect performance while gaming but not in a manner measuring would ever show result. Pure memory benches will always show big numbers.

But yeah good results on the latency bit. I always wondered how the ever increasing latencies were affecting the end result.

What I would be interested to see is the role this can play in a game that is both memory intensive but limited by its engine(aka Fallout 3). It is the primary reason I began looking into overclocked ram Fallout being one of my favorite games but running it with a ton of mods can cause some issues due to its 2gb limit

Well the problem with limited usable ram probably isn't going to be the ram. The information being written to the ram (and from to page file) is mostly coming off the hard drive. Even an SSD is going to be slower than the ram though its a start. That said I have lagged out a game dumping a ram disk to a drive before so hmmmmm.

I would figure it much different for operations which generate temporary data mostly out of no where (calculations etc). But just some thoughts without testing.

Well latency used to be an issue with the older chipsets like I have, the X58 and before. But since the Ivy Bridge series came along the latency just doesn't seem to matter any more. Good article.

I figure the faster the ram can move the necessary data around the less strain on the amount of data it will need to hold. Seeing if an ssd would help a limited game like that run more stable with multiple mods is interesting.
I will have to necropost this in a couple of months with benchmarks in fallout at different clock speeds
