I have a question, does RAM become corrupt or damaged over time and should it be replaced every couple of years - would new sticks boost performance? This is for a high-heat laptop (msi gt683)

@sixer9682 ? @balls2dawall ?

All normal ram comes with a lifetime guarantee and is probably the last component to fail in any computer besides the case. The only way to really damage it, is to overclock it. Other than that ram should last for a long time. You should only replace it if you want to upgrade to either faster speeds or more capacity. You definitely won't see any improvement on paper by replacing sticks of ram.

RAM is invincible. It's made from the horns of baby unicorns in a small workshop near Dusseldorf.

Or, what manny said.

I guess I need to go mug someone for SSDs then.

An SSD is the best thing you can do for your PC, With the Cost of them so low and just the raw performance you get, it has to be the #1 upgrade to a PC imo.

3rd is.. make your laptop the dedicated porn box (dont shoot it)....and build a PC on Newegg

I have only seen RAM be bad once. Sucks too when it does cause you get to meet a nice little program called memtest86... then run it for 24 hrs at a time on each stick to test which is your fail stick

If i put a price on my time, I think it's cheaper to buy new ram sticks. lol.

Depends on the price of your ram ;) cheap sticks, yes replace without question. Some of the newer DDR4 stuff, where its too expensive to just buy new, and you need to wrranty it, then you figure out which one is bad, send it out and limp by with half or quarter memory and see how bad it gets before they send your replacement
