Rent PC Games at Direct2Drive

I've used D2D to buy alot of my games and I've always been happy with their services. Sometimes I'm even happy with their prices. So, this might prove interesting. Especially since wifey loves try-before-you-buy games. She'll get a real kick out of this!

If Microsoft keeps going the way they are, they will be bankrupt in 8-10 years. There are certain scenarios where 'The Cloud' is great, but gaming is NOT one of them. I'm sorry, but saying my PC, or anyones PC will be worthless soon is an unfounded prediction.

I'll tell you what is going to change though. It's the quality of PC gaming. And it's going to boom in the next few years, with more PC only titles getting released with just what we were used to getting 4 years ago.

It's the same thing as OnLive. And that's through the iPhone. If you like PC gaming so much, why do you like OnLive?
 
I like the systems because it make the gaming systems themselves obsolete.

A game will be a game - as in, it will be playable on anything - or anything that has access to the game. Client side processing won't be an issue.

...think about an FPS with a million players all playing the same game at once (a virtual world war) ... totally possible
 
What's wrong with having a gaming system? Isn't that the point of PC gaming? No matter how good internet connections are, you will ALWAYS have delay as it has to travel a distance to get that data.
 
The largest limit of Cloud-side gaming is bandwidth. American ISP's are pissy about people using torrents. However, torrents (while still a large fraction of bandwidth) are getting small compared to Youtube, Netflix, or Steam. Until 80% of houses have access to true broadband (and beyond), Cloud gaming will be limited to MMO's where only the graphics are rendered client-side.
 
It's still bandwidth that has to be streamed, and from datacenters to end users.
 
It's going through a pipe. It doesn't matter how fast the internet connection is. What happens if you are out of internet for a day or a week? No gaming on OnLive or similar concepts. It's ALL streaming.

And that's not feasible for mass usage. It's one thing to stream 720p60 over the internet--and it's an entirely different thing to steam tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of 720p60 streams over the internet.

7128kbps is the total bitrate (for video and stereo audio) for 720p29. Using rastercized graphics is an efficient way to preserve reasonable rendered image quality without excessive bandwidth usage.
 
Yup - just like electricity - a utility. Same risk now as far as losing it goes.

The problem is in the commecialization of the processing. Who pays and how?

OnLive represents just that though. A huge pile of venture capital money trying to commercialize a system
