Not very practical but the big kid in me had to have one so I finally ordered it today. I wanted to purchase it today so I would have a chance to shoot it before my back surgery next week but I also wanted a blued finish and wouldn't you know it, not one Smith & Wesson dealer with in a 120 mile radius had one with a 4" barrel and a blued finish so I guess I will have to wait until after I have my surgery to shoot it. They said it would take about 2 weeks and like with any online firearms order it had to be shipped to a local licensed dealer which meant I had to pay their administrative cost as well but I can pick it up the day it comes in because with my CCW I don't have to wait for a background check.

I couldn't find a picture of the 500 Magnum with the blued finish on the S&W site, so I borrowed an image from a site named lesjones.com Once I get it and have a chance to shoot it, I will upload some video so you guys can watch me break my hand or rip my arm out of its socket firing this beast. I hope the doctors do a good job on my back or something tells me I may be needing more surgery. :)

Product: Model S&W500

The bear killer.... they marketed this when it first came out as the survival handgun that would take down a bear.

What's ammo run you for the range :-0

I bought 2 boxes of the Winchester Supreme Elite Dual Bond Ammunition 500 S&W Magnum 375 Grain Jacketed Hollow Point for $58.90 per box. I could have got a case of 200 rounds for $589.90 but I didn't want to drop that much more money right now considering the gun, cleaning kit, holster, and dealer fees ran me a little over $1,700.00 already today it's a good thing it at least came with a storage case for that price.

I don't plan on shooting this gun on a regular basis which is a good thing considering the cost of the ammo but I am pretty sure I will spend the money to get a case of ammo once I've had a chance to shoot it. : )

Ruger makes great weapons my first hand gun was a Ruger 22cal target pistol. That's a nice looking 9mm, is it your toy?

Yes. Both of them.

They are ok but I am not a big fan of Glock, however I know a lot of folks who swear by them including my brother who carries a Glock 23 40 caliber but the smallest caliber hand gun I own is a Colt Model 1911A1 45 ACP because it's all about the stopping power to me. : )

I have a 6" Ruger .357 Magnum stainless finish.
I also have a Walther P22.
I shot the .22 more because of the price of ammo but the 357 is fun to shoot with 357 and 38 rounds.

Yep, that's why I got the Glock because I can carry it concealed in the small of my back. Very light and I wouldn't want to get hit by one.

Glock is a decent gun. I was thinkin about buyin a Glock 28 for off-duty, but we just switched to Beretta PX4 Storms...and its NICE!

It may take down a small bear, but I would never hunt a bear with anything less than 2 30rd magazines of .308 for a Hog would'nt think twice about it, but a bear will kill you....rip your face off........or eat you, alive or no, that's just me though I would'nt fuck around with that shit.

My generation of the US Army MP Corps retired Colt's 1911 45cal and ushered in Beretta's 92FS 9mm. I was involved with testing prior to this decision, although the change to 9mm had been made prior. We tested only the final final few weapons being considered and I have no idea how the 92FS won. My guess, SigSaur was not an American corporation so it was not an option for such a huge military contract.
Glock was a new technology and a much smaller US Corp than Beretta...

I've never understood why we waste time and money testing prior to foreseeable political decisions :-(

That said, I have personally carried a SigSaur P6 most of my adult life ;-)

As for a bear, I say a 203 HE round!

Since you're in law enforcement, I am assuming you guys are carrying one of the 40cal versions? Beretta makes some real nice handguns and from what I have seen I wouldn't mind getting me a 45 APC version but after dropping a boatload on my new 500 Magnum, I am going to have to wait a few months before even considering that.

My biggest complaint with the Beretta, of which I carried for 8 years on garrison duty, in comparison to the other weapons was that it is oddly bulky yet too light weight for my likings. I personally carried a comp 1911 prior to switching to my Sig. I guess weight and width mean a lot to me personally as it greatly effects "real life" scenario accuracy.

Until last year we were carrying the .40 Beretta (96). That was more accurate than the Storm, partly because it was alot heavier....and the coolest thing is, we get to purchase our old duty weapons everytime we change em up. I bought my 96 for 110.00 lol.

Man Sigs are nice. As far as weight...I used to think heavy was better, especially as far as accuracy.

Damn $110 bucks was a steal for that weapon. : )
