SLI vs Crossfire

I have talked with different people about the differences between the two and have done research too. SO in your guy's opinions, is the main difference amd vs nvidia or different gpus mixed vs the same gpu?

My opinion is one is Pepsi, one is Coke. If your a fan of Coke, why ruin it with Pepsi(and visa/versa)?

Or tires on a Vehicle, why run half Firestone, and half Michelin? Why run one "Brand" of tires, but two different treads? (obviously there are some variables in this metaphor).......

Well my mobo (msi z97 pc mate) says crossfire support not sli. So can i not run two gtx 760s with it? And Dr. Pepper is a god.

I'm sure you could, if PCIE slots compatible(and no debilitating performance issues), you willjust have to browse some other "Dedicated Hardware" forums, not sure many here in TBG mix Coke, Pepsi AND Dr. Pepper.
