I have an ASUS P5N-D motherboard with Socket 775. All heat sink coolers I've ever bought have snapped into the MB. I bought the following Slim Silence 775 and it appears to screw into the MB. It has no clips. Has anyone ever had one similar that could tell me before I take my old cooler off if it will mount. I don't have any paste and I wouldn't be able to remount the old one if this one does not work.

I'm not familiar with this specific cooler, but just looking at the pics from the link you provided, it has a backplate that needs to go on the back of the cpu socket and then the cooler screws go through the holes in the MB around the cpu socket and screws into the backplate, which is usually metal of some sort.

Going to need paste anyways Duke so might as well pick some up. From the looks in the pics I would agree with the above from Sixer.

It already has paste on it. I just don't have any extra to redo. Actually I may have some around here somewhere but it may take me 6 months to find it.

Thanks for the input..

I found a tube of MX-2.... I'm going to play a few games and monitor my temps and then dive in...

Anymore comments are welcome..

Here are my temps MAX and MIN. Maximums at 70+ seem very high to me...

So I take it you have the cooler installed properly now? Just in case you did not know, Gelid usually has very quiet fans and coolers, but the down side is they are low rpm, low cfm fans. I'm sure if you don't like the current temps you can replace the gelid one that came with the cooler to a higher flow and rpm one and get better temps.

Yeah. My results really suck. I had to take the MB completely out to install only to get poorer results.

I will keep shopping I guess. A great waste of time, effort and money on this buy. :(

Look for a cooler that works with 775/1366/1156 sockets.

This one has gotten very good reviews and does about the best job cooling on air from what I've read. It's bulky but damned if it doesn't cool the shit out of the cpu.

Here's another good one, not as good as the Frio, but it's cheaper.
