What is a good solid state drive, manufacturer Im thinking a 500 Gig or up but I don't know anything about them except they are awesome.

yeap any samsung evo will be what you are looking for if your going to get one keep OS separate from games and other stuff

getting a 128 for system 250 for games and a 2 tb dump drive for movies and stuff

That's almost exactly what I was going to do except I have 2 500 gig drives for the dump when one finally craps out I will get a 2TB.

I have my OS and my games on the same drive, perfectly fast and awesome. Not sure if there is any real benefit to separating it out cost vs performance wise.
Also, the samsung software that comes with the drive is actually very nice and helpful. Not your typical crapware.

I just don't see the speed getting faster than instantaneous everything. But again, that is my experience.

;)

Samsung

Dont forget you could always go for a hybrid ssd. You get the capacity of a sata and very close speed to a SSD hare drive for an excellent price. One of my hard drive uses this and I am extremely happy with performance. I have the 500 gb

My first SSD was an Intel 520 series and it was a rocket ship, also very reliable. I only bought a 125 though for system, I outgrew it the day I installed it... So I picked up a Samsung Evo and reinstalled on that drive, it's an excellent drive probably just as fast or faster than the Intel only less expensive. Those would be my two recommendations although for price I would have to give the nod to the Samsung and it's performance is pretty damn impressive. Honestly with SSD's it's going to be hard to discern the speed differences between them because they are all so fucking fast.
