I am looking for around 512g +/- of goodness, but I was wondering a couple things: Would it be better to run two drives? (one for OS/game; and the other for whathaveyou)....if it doesnt matter whether you run 1 or 2 drives, anyone have a reccomendation as far as 400-512g SSDs?

Doesn't make a ton of difference. If you run 2 drives in raid 0 you can get faster performance, but if one drive fails you lose everything.
I would run a 2nd normal drive for anything that doesn't need to be superfast - and for stuff that takes up a ton of space.

I'm personally fond of the Samsung's, the 840 Pro's are awesome, but pricey. The normal 840's are good too, but I can't comment on how they compare to other ssds. I have been nothing but completely satisfed with my two 128GB Samsung 830's.

I swear I saw the thread title say STDs....

hahaha fast!

yea amish. i have had my eyes on the 840 pro for a couple weeks now...read some reviews, just wasnt sure about multiple drives/performance....I have a 2tb external which will account for pics/movies/music... had to get because.my current rig took up just under 50% of my HDD. Im looking forward to SSD, been highly recommended by quite a few people.

Yup. I love 10 second load time on games, even less depending on the game. 10 second bootup time? sure!

shit I remember too fast of load times on BF2 would boot you fromm the server >.<!!!!!!!!

I have two ssds, an 840 pro that has my games and os, an older Kingston one where all my productivity programs live, and a regular hdd for all data (with a second hdd that holds an image of the other three for backup and restore purposes). I got there by accident, but I love the arrangement because if I need to mess with the os drive or productivity one I can do so easily and quickly. My Samsung is a 256 and the Kingston is a 128 and I have no problems with that arrangement because all the data is sitting on the regular drive.

I have the Samsung 840 Pro 256gb and it's the best SSD I've owned yet, and this is my third one. Newegg has it for $469. SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD512BW 2.5" 512GB SATA III (SSD) - Newegg.com

The Plextor's are nothing to sneeze at either, if I didn't have the Samsung 840 Pro I'd get this instead for $429 Newegg.com - Plextor M5P Series PX-512M5Pro 2.5" 512GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

There are other good drives out there, just not the same top tier performance as these two, with the Samsung being the King of the hill. But, if you want to spend less money you won't notice much difference with the ADATA SX9000 at $389 ADATA XPG SX900 ASX900S3-512GM-C 2.5" 512GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - Newegg.com

so I cant go wrong with multiple ssd. thanks for the info fellas!

six, like I said, I have had my eyes on the 840pro....you guys have given me the input to make a decision on runing multiple. I will end up getting a couple 840pro series ssds.

I am glad to hear that samsung 840series hasnt been a dissapointment

Yeah, they kick ass and the 5 year warranty doesn't hurt either :) With my new system the sequential read/write speeds are 561mbs/534mbs despite the speed rating of 540/520.

i got a chance to watch a multiplayer teaser for bf4 finally...at shitty resolution, I know the mrs will hate me, but I think I will end up going biiig on the gpu

I went with a Samsung 512GB for programs/OS and 2x 1TB HDD in raid 0 for data, backed up by one 2TB HDD.

Samsung's controller is the best. Kicks the sandforce controller out of the water.

It'd be cheaper to buy a 512GB SSD than a pair of 256GB SSDs. The extra 0.000000001% performance you'd get by operating them in RAID isn't worth the embuggerance of having to move things around. Remember that BF3 takes up 35GB, Windows another 20 or so and most games 20+. You'll want to leave a fuckload of space free if you're going to be recording gameplay - FRAPS videos are about 2GB/min until you compress them.

I bought a 128GB drive and I'm constantly having to shuffle things around. If you can afford it, ~500 is definitely the way to go.

Amazon has the 840Pro (256) for 230 right now. I am with Rails; 128 is too small (that is how I ended up with an 840 Pro 256) and with Kris in that an SSD in RAID is not worth it. There was some work done on it and the performance increase was negligible. If the 512 is too rich a 256 one will handle the os and several games.
