The airplane is an FMA IA 63, an Argentinian trainer jet that can also fight in combat. I don't know what speed he is pushing, but this 31-foot wingspan bird can reach 442 knots (509mph, 819km/h) at almost 23,000 feet. One thing is for sure: By the looks of it, it can't be flying much higher than one meter from the ground at the lowest point.

What was that...like a foot above the ground? And part of me wonders from the reactions of those people if that was planned to almost hit them....

True. I don't know if you've played BF2142 but landing gear on the Talon Gunship deploy at a certain altitude no matter the speed...people crash alot because of that (cough *Sonar* cough).....so its good thing that plane didn't have it.

Apparently you don't play enough, because the landing gear bay opens and deploys at less than or equal to 275Kph at less than 25 AGL , and stays open for approximately 5-6s, until cruise speed (670Kph) has been met or airspeeds before that, depending on maneuvers. (around 450-570)

At Altitude above 25 AGL or 5 AHO (above highest obstacle). The landing gear will deploy only when the pilot maneuvers the aircraft within those parameters with a low airspeed and intent to land (for example, landing on top of a building or a tower.

Conversely the Landing gear will deploy when you swap seats , regardless of given altitude or airspeed.


The landing gear is triggered by both altitude and airspeed, both are required for the game sequence to activate. If you remain less than 25 AGL (Above ground level) at increasing speeds regardless of AHO, your landing gear will remain down for at least 6s, however this does not restrict NOE flight with the landing gear up, at airspeeds at or greater than 300Kph.

You are exactly right Lex. I didn't play enough to know the whole logistics of speed/altitude for landing gear deployment. Nor did I really care.

I was simply attempting to make a small joke, but it turned into an argument about the fact I didn't know about the speed / altitude stuff......gracious.

No problem. I know the gunships in 2142 the landing comes out only at the lowest speed and when you seat switch. Landing gear doesn't come out at high speeds. Much like the the real life ones.
