So the hotel I'm staying at in NOLA has free internet but it is unsecured. I worry that when I have to log into my bank, CC, or other websites that someone can see my information. What can I do to protect myself? I also am using the LAN connection not wireless.

can you not check those things from your phone? like bank account and CCs I know my bank doesn't display routing and only the last 4 digits of my acct when I go to the website. or it might be a pain in the ass but just change PW eachtime you login before you log back out

There is not really too much you can do. Just a few basic things is to only use HTTPS forms of sites. but even then only some stuff is encrypted as chosen by the website and it might not stay HTTPS.

If you have the ability a VPN would give a better level of safety because if anyone is capturing info, most wont want to take the time to go through a very lengthy decryption process and just discard it for easier targets. But it is still not totally secure.

VPN service like Private Internet Access. Install client, sign in and be secure. Works on computers, phones, tablets, etc. 5ish bucks a month.

change your PWs daily, or every other day. Make sure all your security questions are up to date, and if you have to use personal information (card #s and shit,) utilize phone transactions.
