Abolish the death penalty
Iran

The number of executions in Iran has risen sharply during the last year. Many of those executed were convicted of drug-related offences. Others were political prisoners, convicted of “enmity against God”. Of the 252 officially acknowledged executions in 2010, only 15 were for murder. International standards call for the use of the death penalty to be restricted to intentional crimes with lethal or other extremely grave consequences.

Detainees in Iran are often held for lengthy periods before their trial, during which they are at grave risk of torture or other ill-treatment. Trials are generally unfair. Court proceedings – particularly those held outside the capital Tehran – are often summary, lasting only a few minutes.

Those convicted of drug offences are denied the right to appeal to a higher tribunal.

We are calling for Iran to suspend the use of the death penalty and urge the authorities to respect international law and standards and protect the rights of those facing the death penalty.

We should act in some way, because that shit is brutal & prone to false accusations, 252 dead & 15 of em murderers?! Seriously... Get this spread around your community to show how messed up the system is over in Iran, people are free... of rights. f.e. Saudi-Arabia & U.S. have executions too, but over there/here you get killed if you kill someone, not when you give your opinion on a matter or just have a party.

As said, please spread & support AI in this matter.

None of these plea's or petitions will do anything for iran..Iran wouldn't stop their death penalty for anything unless The regime goes first. Blame the regime. The min the regime leaves Iran, that's when everything starts becoming like Europe and US. Even though, I'm from Iran and live in the US, I am not even going to step foot into Iran till the regime leaves. It's just too damn risky to go. I will wait till it changes (if it changes) if not, Im stuck here in the US which means, my moms would have to make a lot of trips out here to the US just to see me and the rest of the family cause she knows me a little too well. Someone needs to just finish off Khameinei and Ahmadinehjad and the regime is gone. I mean by assassination. otherwise, that regime will be there for a looooooooooooooooong time. Shit! from what I can say is, we left iran when I was 2 months old because of the regime change. thank god we made it out of there or we woulda been dead motha fuckaz. FUCK IRAN RIGHT NOW AND THEIR REGIME!.
 
You are not the first person who has left Iran who has uttered those words. Darksteppa. It is a shame that a country which does have a highly educated citizenry, more than 66% who were born after the fall of the Shah, are kept under such restrictive conditions. Hopefully things will change for the better there sooner rather than later.
