So I recently installed Vegas Pro 10, and I'm trying to open all my AVI files to work on my BF2142 video.

But almost every time I try to import, the program freezes up and crashes.
Anyone who has Vegas Pro know of a good solution?

Or will I simply have to convert all the files?

You should be able to convert the files with Vegas Pro, hell that's half the reason to have the program. We used Vegas Pro to capture and convert our .m2t files from the HD camera. Haven't used it in a couple of years though.

The issue is getting Vegas to accept the AVI files. When I move them into Vegas for the project, the program immediately crashes.

Is there a good converter that will convert AVI to something like MP4 with no quality loss?

That sounds like a codec issue. Have you downloaded the newest ones from Sony?

I did some research. According to various forums, Sony does not provide a codec for AVI files in Vegas Pro 10.
In addition, the codec needed is somewhat rare.

I actually downloaded WinX HD Video Converter Deluxe. It allows me to convert to WAV, and much smaller files, without losing quality.

So I think I fixed it (=

Thanks for the help though everyone!!

Hopefully I'll have this sniper vid done by late January.
