I have a 9600 GT and there is an open 2-prong plug on one edge (like the kind you plug casefans into). The fan for the card is already plugged in to another jack. Does anyone know what this plug is used for and if it can be controlled?

Is it a 6 prong female plug with 4 used slots? Pictures would be very helpful :D.

it's the white one

It's a fan connector. Probably just an extra one :).

I didn't say I had a problem. Why buy ATI instead of NVIDIA? Is coke better than pepsi?
If it is a fan controller, what possible use could it be for if there is already a fan/temp sensor built in? It looks like nothing more than a power lead. Is it a good idea to run case fans, etc off a vid card? I'm just curious as to why the manufacturer would even put it there.

I'd just leave it as is. Fan connectors are best kept as is, unless it's a 4 prong, which you would connect to another female 4 prong connector. As for the ATI/NVIDIA argument, it's whatever is your preference. Unlike Pepsi/Coke, there ATI has been better at times, and so has NVIDIA.

Voltmeter? If it gives 12V you can hook up teh fannage. Don't go crazy on the wattage though - you might end up fucking something up :-D .

Pepsi is ALWAYS better than coke............unless you're talking about cocaine. As for the ATI/Nvidia debate..........I know little to nothing about computers and I always have problems with Nvidia and I don't with ATI.

"Some get their kicks from cocaine. I'm sure that if I took even one sniff. That would bore me terrifically too. That I get a kick out of you." Sorry I had to reference "Blazing Saddles".

I had that tab on two cards. I don't why it's there because the tab didn't go into the seven year old motherboard I had. Maybe the newer motherboards it does.

It's a SPDIF connector you noobs!!!!!!

It's used for sending audio over HDMI. You connect the spdif out from your motherboard into the vid card to get sound through your HDMI connection.

ok I'm a tech noob, but that's interesting. I'll look for a matching open connector on the motherboard.
