Hey guys,

Does anyone know how to shorten videos or just clip what you want out of them instead of uploading hours of video to YouTube?

Windows Movie Maker will do it for free the latest version compatible with 7 and 8 is alright. Actually lets you save in decent quality H.264 which Youtube will be happy to munch on. Personally I bought Sony Vega Movie Studio (now just Movie Studio) for like 60 bucks on sale for the platinum edition to full on editing like the Pro's. But its overkill.

Depends on the format. It's technically possible to cut the beginning and end off H.264 (Nvidia Shadowplay for example uses the format natively) without even reencoding it. But the only software I have seen that actually does this isn't cheap for the fact that thats about all it does.

Well Windows Movie Maker doesn't like .avi files. Any programs for .avi files?

Really depends on whats in the AVI file. Its just a container, like a cardboard box. The majority of things stored in AVI files should have been converted to a modern or higher compression format before trying to upload anyways. Many formats in an AVI container are like trying to upload a BMP picture rather than a PNG or JPG. Inefficient.

As suggested Handbrake is great for batch conversions if you understand how to configure it. Not sure its so great for shortening videos which may be half of your goal.

Windows movie maker doesn't help you aim in your videos though...
