Windows 10 Upgrade FREE for owners of 7 and 8.1

so this means that once I upgrade, if I do, I receive a key so if I have to reformat get a new HD or anything like that I can get win 10 back at no charge? the wording is rather confusing obviously
 
Basically it's on sale for $0 for the first 365 days it is out.

yeah I understood that much but as much as we all upgrade and what not what happends if my hd/ssd that has the 8.1 os on it now takes a shit and I have to reinstall then I just go back to win 8.1 or did I get a key to allow me to keep my win 10
 
They'll give you a key most likely. You can always download OS disk images on MS site

Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1 Update required. Some editions are excluded: Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows 8/8.1 Enterprise, and Windows RT/RT 8.1.
 
The big thing to remember in this is that DirectX 12 will NOT be compatible with Windows 7. So you will have one year to pick up windows 10 for free and have access to DX12
 
Sorry if i have been out of the loop by how long has Hololens been announced? I just found out about that project
 
Im not sure how I like this... I DESPISE WIN 8 with a passion, I hate the tile system and just the overall interface....

Im not sure how much WIN10 will feel right for me.... But if I want to keep being a PC gamer.... DX12 is going to become needed and WIN 10 a nessary evil.....makes me wonder if I am going to have to go to a triple-boot OS system...
 
u on 8.1 or just 8?? I never got 8 cause of the tile bullshit but when 8.1 came around I got it cause it was for the most part like other windows however still had the tiles. dint watch full video to see if 10 has the tiles or not. but ill take a free upgrade and well if I don't like it I can always go back to 7 ultimate or 8.1

I still use WIN 7 and a Gamer Version of Linux. I tested 8 in stores and almost puked on the machine. My GF has 8.1 on her new computer and I like it a bit better...but still made me wanna smash my fist through the screen

A 20 second download fixes the tile system and gives you your classic start menu. Windows 8 is smaller, faster, uses multicores better, and better graphic support.

I have tried the classic interface mode with the desktop and everything...it just didnt seem right. like I said it was better then 8 by itself but it still didnt make me feel comfortable enough to want to switch OS. Though after 10 comes out....free upgrade incl DX12 might be a tempting enough offer
 
I'm going to test the next ISO they release in a virtual machine first before I consider taking them up on this offer.
