Battlefield 3 PC version won’t have in-game server browser

"The tables have turned. A day after we gladly reported that console gamers would be getting this great PC feature called “server browser”, we can now report that PC gamers won’t have an in-game server browser. DICE’s Alan Kertz has confirmed that in order to switch servers, you have to exit Battlefield 3, and use Battlelog to find another server and join.

Granted, Kertz points out that BF3 “starts up really fast”, but we can’t imagine it being more effective than having an in-game server browser, which has been the norm in PC games for decades — in fact, there’s no other game that requires you to exit in order to switch servers.

Considering that server switching is frequent among gamers, either because of rage quitting or trying to find a better game, or something third, this could cause some annoyance. We’ll have to wait and see how it plays out (no pun intended) when Battlefield 3 is released. So far, it’s kinda disappointing news, but we’ll see how it turns out in the end.

What they have not announced yet is the single player requires going onto battlelog which means being online!
 
Typical EA,I don’t think this alone would have kept me from preordering the game but what other surprises do they have in store for us. In my opinion, all this crap should have to be disclosed before they are allowed to start excepting preorders.
 
Battlelog worked great for me in the Alpha. Have no issues with this.

Features like that always get dropped in a hurry. Spore, Silent Hunter V, loads of other games had loopy DRM requirements for a couple of months and then quietly dropped them. Besides, Battlefield is rather like sex. It's much better when you're not alone. Better still when you're raping the shit out of the other participants*. I can live with the online requirement for the few weeks or months it'll take till there's a hack or a patch that does away with it.

Whats not okay is one day your update your web browser and all of a sudden an important button in battlelog fails to work.

I'm not part of that elite inner circle with their nose up EA's ass that gets to play the Alpha so I haven't had the opportunity to mess with Battlelog. ..lol : )

Regardless I am not to thrilled that I have to completely exit my game just to join another server despite how fast their claiming BF3 loads. I call shenanigans!!!!!!!!!!
 
Alpha was random selection. I'm surprised I got in. It does load fast.

Honestly, I think you guys won't have an issue with it once you get a chance to try it. Yes, it's not in-game, but it functions like HLSW if you will through a web browser.
 
the game does indeed loads fast. i dont think this is a flaw, actually u will be more in battlelog than playing the game sometimes. ull see what im talking about once u get the game.

its gonna be fun, ull see.

Mind you half the shit in battlelog ought to just be in origin instead since we already have to have that too..... All the battlelog shit should just be in the damned game with our origin friendslist connected.
 
i dont mind it, origin does let u browse battlelog while in game..... i suggested if they are gonna do browser server lists they make an in game browser built for the game not 2 separate items

At first glance this looks like a really bad idea but if you look at it a little further when you join a game in bc2 you are exiting out to the main menu which has all the features battlelog has. Battlelog will be like the main screen in BC2 or any other FPS out there. Yes its a new idea but if load times are as fast as they are saying it wont be that big of a deal.
