So I am looking to get a new cell phone, the problem is I don't know shit about them. All I know are what I see on the commercials. I'm not interested in Apple at all. Anyone tell me what a good android phone to get is?

I've been looking at the Nexus 5 and Moto X. Can't seem to find anything other than those. What do you use your phone for primarily?

I used to be an Apple hater as well, but recently moved on to the 5s from a Galaxy Nexus and for what I use a phone for, it is fantastic. Nexus finally died after 2.5 years and the phone that piqued my interest was the 5s.
Also, every damn accessory and new tech seems to be designed for the iPhone before anything else. So, convenience. Fuck Macs though.

Galaxy S4 here, love it long time. The Nexus 5 seems to be the phone to get though.

Right now i'm Verizon but thinking of going to Tmobile. Mostly talk and text but I do like to use my phone for GPS and cool little apps. I also use FoxFi as a wifi hotspot

S4 user here. what do you use now? Nexus 5 is a great option if you want the flexibility of contract free and a phone that works on Sprint, tmobile and att.

Fossil, that was my last phone. I can say the Galaxy S4 (my current phone, on Verizon btw) is fiendishly better. Google maps, navigation, web browsing, all my 'old' apps, everything is hella fast. This is on 4g though, not sure if that's available in your area as not all areas have it (that I'm aware of). If it was me and I wanted to stay with Verizon, the S4 is a no brainer. Otherwise, the Nexus.

I'd love to stay with Verizon but fuck are they exspensive. Can get Unlimited talk, text, web and 3GB data on Tmobile for $60 and I get 20% off with my works discount. Verizon is like $90 for same thing.

'and you also can't talk to anyone on T mobile because their infrastructure is worse than Altell. Loll.

I use a Note 3 on Verizon and LOVE it, but it's way too much phone for what you are looking for. S4 might even be too much.

I'm looking at getting an S4/Nexus 5/Moto X myself.

droid user here haven't upgraded in a long time because verizon wants to take away my unlimited data (assholes) but the phone i have been looking at is the s4. the new soon available s5 also looks interesting but i will have to wait and see. verizon has recently had to offer new packages/plans lower prices (or so they say) might be worth a look. usually family plans offer the most bang for the buck. the best coverage depends on where you live but it seems that verizon does have the best overall coverage, at least here in SoCal. your best bet is to check costumer reviews and family/friends take on their service to see which carrier works well in your area. costumer service is huge and sprint always comes in dead last in that area. google is a good research tool.

The plans havent changed yet btw. If it wasn't for the work discount id say for 60 mind as well pickup MetroPCS Unlimited data which T-Mo owns the only difference is no tethering (which i tether on it anyways). But you could grab unlimited everything for 70 now plus your discount and keep it after the plans change later this month.

I mean if you do NOTHING with the phone 3GB is okay. My average on sprint if you went 12 months was 3GB per month but you have bad months sometimes. If you have wifi at work then your probably good but I currently don't. I was doing T-Mo's semi secret $30 a month for 5GB plan in which only has 100 minutes. But I started coming up 2 or 3 days short on data and their throttling is horrible.

I run the Nexus 5 and have been hopping between various providers mostly T-Mobile and MetroPCS and I love the service and the phone. Be warned you can put the device on Sprint if its a Google Play bought phone but the T-Mobile ESN's are not in sprint's database and they seem to be not allowing activation even though its otherwise compatible. T-Mobile also only has the 16 GB which is useless to some people.

You could buy a Harris man portable radio, a garmin GPS and an inmarsat sat phone.

It would make your life much more interesting and the only cost would be the initial investment if you hack the sat phone.

I just went through this two weeks ago Frank, I have been eligible for an upgrade with Verizon for almost two years but they won't give me one unless I dump my unlimited data plan. Fuck them, I just paid full freight($800) for a new Samsung Note 3 and kept my plan. I've been paying $125/mo. for 4 years and now that the phones and networks have advanced to the point I can justify that bill they are trying to force me out of it? I don't think so. I've had my phone for 3 weeks and I've used 15.51 gigs of data so far, and I plan on raping that network for every byte of data I have the time to squeeze out of it. I will make that full price phone and 4 years of grossly overpriced plan worth every penny before the summer is over. The Note 3 has a big screen and it's 1920x1080 so Netflix is awesome on it.

I'm running a Galaxy S3 that's rooted with Cyanogenmod 11 (Android 4.4, KitKat) on it. I couldn't be happier. I don't need the newest phone since I can completely modify this one. The screen isn't as big as the latest phablets but since I don't watch a lot of videos I don't need it to be. Basically you could save some money by getting an older phone and modding it to suit your needs. There is no bloatware and you're not stuck waiting for your carrier to upgrade, or not, to the latest software.
