So thinking about picking one up for my birthday present to me. Wondering if anyone has recommendations. I'm using the Sennheiser 350 SE and have an Asus z97 Sabertooth motherboard. My question is, will I really see much of an impact? It seems like the mobo has a built in AMP?

The audio seems pretty great now, but wondering if I am missing out. I really enjoy and use sounds in games - so thats why I was asking. If I was to get something it would be something like this

Thanks!

I have Sennheiser 363D's and am running an Asus z87 Deluxe. Anyway, from talking to Sixy a few months ago, I picked up the Asus Xonar Essence STX and was floored by the difference. I think there are about 3-5 of us that run the same card--I highly recommend it. Hope this helps.

Yeah you are. A dedicated sound card, especially one with a built in amp is 100% better than any onboard chip. I particularly like the Asus Xonar series but I've also heard others like the Soundblaster Audigy series. I used to have an Audigy and but when Win7 came out the drivers turned to shit and all I heard in BF games was static and popping noises so I switched to Asus and have had crystal clear sound since...and it's loud so hold onto your ears!

I dunno man. I had the Asus Xonar DG with built in amp.
I don't use it anymore. The sound on the Hero Vii is better.

That's definitely not the case for the Asus Xonar Essence STX...the Hero audio sounds like shit in comparison...wait there is no comparison.

I'm sure that is totally true! That would be the only sound card that I would consider!!!
But I was surprised that the Hero onboard was better than a low end Xonar DG.

'Sound Blaster Z', not the other variations of the card. Driver release 11.17.2014 v6.0.102.32 only.
Disable all sound entries in Device Manager and on the Mobo first before installing.
