so I am thinking about taking a laptop with me to Afgahn, but I have been out of laptop gaming for a while and haven't been following the recent market.

Any suggestions?

GTX 660M is baseline if you want decent performance in BF3 and plan on playing BF4. Don't forget when your looking at cpus' i5's are duals and some i7's in laptops are but the quads have QM on the end of the name.

650M is while workable its cut down shit for a reason. The upper end of the older 500 series is fine too but not common. Meat picked up an a 17 inch MSI on my recomendation with the older 560M back when the mode he bought was new and 500 series was current pretty sure he liked it.

Prebuilts with OS's ASUS, MSI are my usual recomendations. Barebones built MSI or Sager (Always by Sagers from resellers for better support) but you need to pick up an OS. The barebones offerings will usually be better bang for the buck and offer options OEM's like HP, Dell do not offer at all.

I have the 560M and runs BF3 OK compared to the desktop, go for the higher series GPU and don't worry about anything else. If you carry the laptop a lot you might want to go with a 15" I carry a 17" beast and it sucks.

I run last years Asus ROG G75w-BBK, but this seems to be the current equiv: Asus 17.3" Laptop 12GB Memory 750GB Hard Drive + 750GB Hard Drive G75VW-DH71 - Best Buy

Mine only has 8 GB and the 2nd Gen I7. It works awesome. I threw a 256 GB SSD and it runs like a dream, 5 second startup time.

Not a poor choice but a few hundred more than necessary. Seems to be the upper end offering they have at Best Buy. The amount of ram, the second hard drive etc reasons for the increased price.
