I've seen a lot of people say they are interested in doing triple monitors for their games and yet they don't seem to have a clue as to what it takes, hardware wise, to run current games at a decent frame rate.

Let me put this another way, the higher the resolution of your monitor(s) the more GPU muscle you need since your FPS will drop with increasing resolution. With three monitors we're talking about [FONT=verdana,geneva]5790x1200. Do you think your video card can handle this?

Bottom line is it will take 3 or more GPUs to run at acceptable frame rates. Here's a good example of what I mean these guys are running two GTX 590s and two AMD 6990s and getting 74fps on average on BC2. Granted, their processor is probably slowing things a bit at 3.7ghz, but not by a lot. So, if it takes that kind of GPU muscle to make BC2 run decently, and also think BF3 since it uses the Frostbite engine, what do you think a single Radeon 6850 or GTX 460 is going to to?

It's pure bullshit that you can run this without one hell of a lot of money spent for the monitors, the graphic cards and a nice high end CPU.

I would rather use one really large or two semi-large widescreen monitors. Why waste the money.

Throw 'em into portrait mode; less wasted space IMO. Maybe it's just my style, but I think vertical space is a hell of a lot more important. Besides, drop settings to Medium and how does it change the requirements?

Nah, if I'm going to do it it's going to be all the way; no medium or low settings. To me it's all or nothing.

I tired of hearing "I run three monitors! I run three monitors! " and I'm thinking "It probably runs like shit.". Just because you're able to doesn't you can.

I got a 42'' screen and I think this is the best!!
Beaver is the best of the rest ;B

Or just have a wife like mine who blurted out the other day: "I think we need a 60" tv; that 50" looks small."

I ran 3 monitors before I sold them, my game never looked like shit. I constantly got 50+ FPS. I think it's all how you set the resolution vs what the monitor are cable of. And really all 3 monitors does is give you wider FOV. No much of an advantage in FPS games. But, running 3 monitors in a Racing game like I did. Makes a HUGE difference since the FOV goes from 75 to 130.

Sixer no one said they planned to run full res or high res monitors did they? hehe I was planning in the GTX 570s and since im used to my 1366 x 768 display i doubt 3 1600 x 900 a peice would bother me. Im not gonna do it though. Ive run dual monitors at 1280x1024 on a 9500 gt in less demanding games than an fps and not everyone triple monitoring is playing crysis 2 lol. Gtx 580s in sli would be a good improvement for the high res triple monitors due to the extra rops. But i cant say i wouldnt try it on a single dual gpu card to a certain extent.

Rain, this wasn't directed at anybody. I just heard somebody else at work talking about it and running on a mid range system and I just don't understand it. Like I said, maybe it's just me but I think it's either go big or stay home. I'd do it all the way or not at all. Shit, I'd rather have a 27" 120hz monitor instead, but that's close to $700 right now.

Actually forgot to mention for nvidia u have to run dual cards or a 590 anyways. Eyefinity comes in single card support but us nvidia guys are limited to 2 by normal means. You can actually add a virtual device via usb. Other than that we have to run dual cards.

That's why I'm waiting on Nvidia to develop another series of cards that's better than the 590. It's their first card that can do 3 monitors stand alone. And they are charging way to much money for my taste.

I thought the price was dead on since its not just about the three output. Its cheaper than the dual 580s that it would be and just over the retail of 2 570s which would actually go for about 660 for the pair. I believe the 750 dollar pricetag was also inline with the 6990 which on certain respects was better.
