I am looking to pick up a new headset as mine is an old piece of crap and barely works half the time... Anyways, I was looking for suggestions from everyone to see what exactly I should buy. I am on a budget of about $50-60. Any kind of incite would be nice, thanks.

Soulzz is going to tell you to spend 300 bucks on a Sennheiser right away ignoring your budget entirely. Now that I have said that he is going to defend his position against this statement.

I needed something analog and ended up trading down my Plantronics Gamecom 780 which was USB with the 7.1 effect to the 380's very much the same build wise but its stereo and analog - http://www.amazon.com/Plantronics-GameCom-380-Stereo-Headset/dp/B006ZS5AQA
I have no regrets but its not to say you couldn't do better. I shoved them into a backpack over the weekend their 6 months old I have no worries of them breaking at this point.

They are over ear and I wear them 8 hours a day sometimes. Logitech has some offerings in the same arena. Then you got all the other companies have plenty of offerings some in your budget many not. In comparison to the 20 dollar sony headphones I used to listen to music with in high school these rock but I don't have Soulzz's Sennheiser to compare to or anything.

you can pick up cresyns for less than 20 (i use them)

I love my Logi G35, great sound.. amazing surround. Not that pricey

I have Some Sennheisers myself and personally...I'm not a huge fan. I know I know..blasphemy. I had Razer Megalodon's before that...they're collecting dust.

The only headset's I've had that I loved were Plantronics. Specifically the DSP-500(which are not made anymore).

Check these out though. the Plantronics Gamecom 780. Havn't tried em myself, but every plantronics headset I've owned I've loved. Right in your price range and tons of great reviews. They ARE Usb though. I personally like that because it allows me to put specific programs on my USB sound card (eg teamspeak) and surround sound speakers for the game. When people are around I can put both on the USB.

Here's the newegg reviews for it:
Newegg.com - Plantronics GameCom 780 Corded Headset Dual Earpiece 86051-01
And here's the best price I found:
PLANTRONICS (86051-01) Product Page -- NextWarehouse.com

I have seen both of these on Amazon and almost bought the 780's because they have been on sale for like $58. That said, what is the difference in sound between the two, given the USB vs. Analog setup, or is there any?

AH, I think this answered my previous question. Thanks dude

USB headsets have their own soundcard that bypasses your installed soundcard. So honestly, it really depends on the quality of the soundcard you have installed. But you gotta think, the soundcard in the headset is designed specifically for the headset so they are built to take advantage of each other's attributes. And btw, they are 58 dollars, tax free (in all states by CA and MA) and free shipping on that site I linked. The USB I noticed on my old headset though sounded awesome and had THE BEST 3d positioning ability of any headset I've used. I used to be able to shoot people through walls in CS just by using the sound.

Well the surround processing available once the software is installed is the biggest difference. I think with the surround off they sound and feel the same. There is a button on the 780 to switch. If that surround effect blows your mind and you feel it helps you locate your enemy better then go for it. I felt like it sounded awesome but didn't change my play.

The sound on analog is really all down to your sound card. My ASUS Xonar is dope and it sounds better than onboard but nothing mind blowing. The microphone preamp on the ASUS also produces for a very loud mic input so no worries there but if I was on stock different story.

The creative ones are great for that price range. Newegg.com - Creative Fatal1ty Gaming Headset $28 but does not have it's own amplifier. I've never tried the Plantronics ones, Razor's are okay nothing great and I love my Senessshshgghghr however you spell them but not for $300. Anyway, the Fatality headsets are a nice mid-range option. The sound is good, not great, and for the price you can't beat it IMO

I've been eyeballing this for a while: AntLion Audio — Welcome

They seem to have had some serious problems with production getting their first batch out, but if there's a sale, I'll be picking one up in the future for sure.

Right now, I use a cheapo desktop USB mic (branded Logitech but I've seen it branded otherwise) which is less than ideal, but is okay for now... and Sony MDR-XB700's xD .

Which is the case with pretty much every audio device Logitech carries. From low end to high. The G35 and G930 are not made by them in any capacity. Those 2 in particular are Avnera units. Like most other junk on the market they are shopped out by these companies. They will often make Logitech style samples and Logitech won't have any real design influence into it.

Just ordered my 780's, should have them in a weekish. Thanks for the help guys
