How to build a $480 gaming PC to take on Battlefield 3

Only thing on my rig I have upgrade is my videocard to the newest one. I mean it will run it with no problems right now.

Meh. I'd prefer to spend a few bucks more and get a good graphics card instead.

I'll buy a new videocard(s) and a new CPU when my credit card is paid off. Which should be before the end of this year.

Hold up im pretty sure they failed. They spent more than 480 bucks and live with the excuse oh we said u could cheap out this way. Atleast when nvidia did an article they stuck to the title budget.

Definitely going to need to upgrade my GPU to run it on highest settings.

I only have $450 I guess I'm fucked; good luck getting owned with that dual core CPU.

According to that, it actually runs pretty poorly on the Core i3/i5 they listed. It needs a quad-core. That much is clear. Good thing Intel's old i5-750/760 is so cheap and that quad-core Sandy Bridge i5's can be had for pretty cheap. But yeah, looks like HD5850's at least for graphics. The HD6670's not even benchmarked and it sucks compared to HD (5/6)750.

That article is pretty much BS IMO.

Balls: if you can deal with running it in a cardboard box or recycled chassis...

AMD A6-3650 & Gigabyte A75M-UD2H ($205 with DiRT 3 coupon)
Team Elite 2x2GB DDR3-1333 ($26)
Seagate 500GB ST500DM002 ($40)
Corsair CX500 V2 ($60 - $20 MIR)

$333.85; $313.85 after MIR. That's $136 for graphics. It's a shame the old HD5850's are all gone and prices are pretty high due to bitcoin mining...
