I was doing some research about, does it very necessary to get the I7 for high gaming performane. If I got a very good video card, will I see the difference between I5 and I7.

I read some gaming thread about it and some say the difference isn't anoff to buy a I7. What do you think guys?

As we expected the performance difference between the CPUs we tested was negligible. As these rates the differences would not even be noticed by the human eye. This test only confirms what we have said before CPU speed is not a major factor for high resolution gaming anymore.
It's what I'm talking about

I would just make sure you get a motherboard that supports USB 3.0 and SATA 6gb/s. Both platforms offer terrific performance. Can't go wrong with either.

i would say i7 920 at least, that socket should be used in the next version of intel cpus, so you get a good cpu and your motherboard will be more future proof

not everybody has a microcenter near them...like me...and their dirt cheap prices are usually in store only
imo go i5 750 unless you are going SLI in which it pays to have the 920, otherwise its not worth it if you're paying about $100 bucks more

You would want to get 1366 socket motherboard; the newer i9 coming out would fit that board if you get the i5 your tough out of luck. Also, i7 boards give you x16 on both video cards in Sli or crossfire; an i5 motherboard only gives you x8, that is where you see the benchmark difference.

Socket 1366 mobos are a bit more expensive.

If you want something more future-proof, get a socket 1366 mobo with sataIII and USB3.0 (there aren't many out there, I think Gigabyte is just about the only one that makes one like that right now... maybe Asus too, haven't looked recently), and an I7-920.

If you want something cheaper that you can replace sometime in the future, get a socket 1156 mobo and a I5-750.

Realistically, especially at higher resolutions (1680x1050 and higher), you will see negligible to no improvement between the I5-750 and I7-920 and I7-965.

However, you will see more of a difference (especially in minimum framerates) between an I5-750, and say... Q6600 or E6600 or Phenoms. It's somewhat situational, but it is there.

Most of the time, the video card is the limiting factor. Sometimes, it's not.

P.S. Oh, by the way no matter what processor you get (i5, i7, whatever), definitely overclock it to 3.6ghz at least. It would be a shame not to. You should be able to do 3.6 just fine even with the stock cooler...

What do think about that ?

memory seems unnecessary and expensive...and much cheaper here

might as well just go with 1600mhz anyway

this video card is cheaper AND better http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102857 (doesn't have to be Sapphire)
or could step it up to this for barely any more http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150443

never heard of kingwin, I'd just go with this one http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139010 , same price pretty much

here I made a wishlist http://secure.newegg.ca/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=17373787
wtf, why is it coming up newegg.com when the link says newegg.ca....

Newegg's prices are better than pretty much all of those ecxept the core i7 and windows 7 which are the same, but they didnt have your case or your motherboard that you chose so i just put comparables on the list to get a general idea of the price, and it comes out a good deal cheaper

hope this helps

That SSD i have two of them and paid 100 bones; my advice is check out ebay; but, check their seller rating. Usually, they ship anywhere in the world.

Agreed with all TK said.

If you want nVidia, get the cheapest GTX 275 you can find. Best price/performance right now imo - and check ebay + microsoft Bing 8% cashback (not sure if eligible in canada but worth looking). If I were buying right now though, I'd probably go with the 5850 as well...

Don't like the case - would get a CM Storm Scout or Sniper... they look pretty nice - but it's personal preference.

Buying windows is... always good I suppose.

I totally agree get a corsair PSU and never look back. Kingwin is not something I'm familiar with either.

Your mobo is microATX, so probably cramped and don't expect overclocking much. Get some cheap X58 full-size ATX mobo from someone like DFI/MSI/Gigabyte/AsRock/Asus/Biostar imo.

Processor is good but I wonder if newegg is the best place to buy it. Ebay might be cheaper... a lot of "new" CPU's with 8% cashback from Bing are available in the US.

Balls, are you serious?!!! You got two Vertexes (Vertices? lol) for $100 on ebay? Did you get them at the same time? Is it $100 after cashback or coupons or something? That's insane! I'll get a couple of SSD's for RAID0 just to fool around with if it only cost $100 for both...

Was is there is what I thought could be a good deal. I don't like the price but I think it's gonna be an good pc.
I just compared on ebay and yes I can cut couple dollars in many parts here.
For the motherboard I've looked many today, and this one is perfect for overclocking.

Why not ddr3 2000 mghz ?
And I always thought Nvidia was more stable and a better decision because like many games, there are tested first on a NVIDIA video card.

I've noticed that NVIDIA does tend to do a lot more marketing then AMD/ATi. Does it mean they are better? Not necessarily. With that being said, I hope the new architecture coming out, Fermi, performs well as it will lower the 5870 in price if that's the case. We'll see though.

You have to look at the memory timings as well (cas being the most important).

Basically, a kit at 2000mhz cas 8 will probably perform the same as a 1600mhz cas 7 kit or a 1333 mhz cas 6 kit... or something like that.

The lower the timings, the better the memory.

This being said, these are (as all computer parts) ADVERTISED timings. What they don't show is how high you can overclock the memory (or lower the timings). It's the same as buying a processor. They guarantee you'll be able to run the I7 920 at 2.66ghz, but how high you can take it is somewhat randomly determined.

That being said, memory usually has very, very low impact on games. Faster memory is usually only useful in very computationally intense + memory intense applications... like crunching numbers for something like a math application, or rendering, or encoding, etc. In games, you'll rarely see more than 5% FPS difference between an average and a ridiculous kit.

Meh. $100 for one is a bit too much imo.

When the Vertex 2 that's coming out next month becomes $50, I might consider getting a couple. It's probably going to be 1 year+, maybe even two before that happens.

The other option would be me getting some kind of a job where I'm basically wiping my ass with money, but the likelyhood of that happening is extremely low.
