My laptop came without an optical drive leaving me a couple choices. Get one and find the bracket and face plate to match the chassis. I could put a hard drive there instead.

But I bought this one to use at work and on the go. I use my phone as my internet connection but keeping it in my pocket is bad if I walk too far from the laptop. So I decided to use the optical bay to hole the phone!

2 ideas. One I could cut the blank plate as remove one section is about the perfect width for the phone. But finding an extra plate for warranty is impossible. The phones the same width as a 2.5 inch hard drive so why not an ODD caddy?

A rough cut later and a peice of paper to protect the phone from scraping metal:

Now all I need is to get a screen protector for the phone to be really safe! I will get a matching ODD faceplate and cut to cover the excess of the opening. If I were skilled enough it would be nice to have a usb charging dock in there lol.

Nice work! At least you can charge it via USB right there. Is there USB 3 port right there? Just need a very short cable with a side angle on the micro usb.

Is this how you answer your phone if it goes off while it's plugged in?

There are 2 USB 2 ports there the USB 3 is on the other side. I have a super short USB cord somewhere and I wish I knew where it was for that photo but I couldnt find it in time.

Patent that shit, you will bring in some bank. Soldiers would eat that shit up! Everyone would eat that shit up!

Yeah lmao. If only so many phones would fit. Mine barely does as it is. Even worse, with the ideal feature of a charging port in there too many phones with no port on the bottom, different positions.

Funny funny. Since anyone who has my number is actually calling my google voice I might just answer on the laptop :p

I am sure Rain will write an App that allows your computer to answer the phone....and the machines internal mic will do the job

the phone bottom issue can be circumvented by using the optical drive bay as a way-through for a small micro-usb cable connected directly to the MB, you wouldn't have a "docking port", but the phone bay would have an actual use.
