Need some help with my pc.

Task manager looked ok. I updated my vid card to the latest driver, dl'd malware bytes, ran scan and found 8 trojans, dl'd super antisypware, did another scan and it found 493 threats, removed and rebooted. Not sure if any of that helped yet. Is there 1 program you guys use to check for all of these probs? I figured my Avast would be all over the malware and trojans.

CCcleaner and Malwarebytes is my lifesaver.

How long has it been since you reformatted or even defraged?

Any utilities/crap sitting in the system tray? My rule is if I see an icon down there and I don't instantly know what it is and what it does, I uninstall it.

Also check FRAPS if you run it. I couldn't work out why my harddrive was always full till I realised fraps was recording everytime I pressed F12.

Thats funny Rails :D, Bet you had alot of footage and some wierd delays.

lol.. I have the free fraps..only records 30 seconds of vid.. Rarely turn it on. System tray is good.

Just defragged but I have never reformatted my pc. Had it for 2 years now and dread doing it. But I'm sure I need to soon.

Regardless if you get this issue fixed or not you should prolly do it sooner or later :D

i know this may sound odd but, maybe check your processes to ensure that you are not running any unwanted exe in the background. an example would be...daemon tool lite, adobe updaters. pull up task manager and check. if you are not for sure what is windows process or not follow these steps.
1) start
2) Run
3) (type) msconfig
4) Go to services Tab
5) at bottom check "hide all microsoft services" box. (this ensures you dont mess up what needs to be running)
6) remove unwanted
7) Go to startup tab and uncheck what is not needed.

I think your ram is fine. I curently run bad company 2 off of 1 gb ddr. which is half of the requirement. (about 750 available after windows)
the game runs very smooth for me with no hiccups.
I would check my page filing space if i were you just to be sure it isnt the ram. 1st PF should be about 1 1/2 times that of your max ram. yet i prefer to set it closer to the max physical.
hope it all works out for u

oh, and yea you should always prepare for a format. new viruses leak everyday, and systems crash. ccleaner has a restore tool built in. (awesome program!)
set the restore to a back up drive and youre good to go.

Processes are good, asses9. I have ccleaner but no back up drive :( I'll have to back up all my family photos onto a disk and reinstall any programs/games I want. I'm off work next week so I'll have some free time. I might need some help as I'm not that tech savy. I overclocked my rig following a youtube instruction video..kind of scetchy but it worked.lol.

:(
i cant determine much since im not there. too bad because id hand u an extra drive :D

lol...that would be great, asses... I should probably just buck up and go buy one. I'll be reformatting this week as everything I've done has not helped. I'm still having issues...

Reviving this old thread!

I reformatted windows 7 last night and I think there might be a bunch of driver updates I need. Is there a program any of you use or recommend to scan for drivers needed? And is there anything else I should know/do after a fresh install?

I may have more questions as I'm still struggling to get this machine back up to par.

Other than the graphics card driver typically your motherboard manufacturers website is going to have the vast majority of the drivers your system needs. The ones that come on the disc are likely to be out dated. But you normally want to start with chipset and storage drivers. Lan driver and others are important as well.

Trying to use something to autodetect drivers might be a bad idea for some of the drivers you should get from the motherboard manufacturer. It might detect ones that work but not be the correct one. Sometimes all it can detect is the chipset a component is based on and try to use that driver. Hell I use a desktop lan card driver on my laptop since its based off the same chip but i never feel good about it.

I would check heat. I read through this thread and didn't see anything about checking temps. If I missed it then I apologize. Use a program like "speedfan" or "hwmonitor" to view your temps (both are free). If your CPU or GPU is overheating then that could be a big performance issue. Most video cards come with software that will let you turn up the fan speed. I run mine at at least 60% when I am gaming. In the summer I run it at 80% fan speed.
Let me know if you want some help checking computer temps.

I think I have all of my drivers now. I dl'd speedfan and my core temps were running at 51c at idle. I cleaned all the dust out of my case and bumped up the fans and lowered them to around 43c. Getting ready to dl origin and bf3 now. What a pain in the ass.. Sooo many windows updates.

You only missed that it was from last year :p Not terribly old but he bumped it for new reasons.

Yeah, I realized that but also know from experience that we don't always get the results we want from a clean install.

Redneck, is that your CPU or GPU core temps? I assume CPU. If thats your tempt at idle then I could see the CPU getting pretty toasty on a game like BF3.
Just my thoughts. cheers!

My cpu shows 38c and gpu shows 37c. At the bottom of the list it shows core 0: 43c and core 1: 43c.

Temps.PNG This is at idle.

Those temps look pretty good. If you continue to have issues then I'd track those temps at full load in a game and see what happens.
