Newegg selling counterfeit i7 920's o_0?!

I thought this was a joke or something... saw it posted on HardOCP a couple of days ago.

Apparently, the story's picked up and it seems like other people have been sold what appears to be... counterfeit i7 920 processors?!!!

I'm not sure if they work fine or anything, or how they're made (reverse-engineered or a "rogue" factory somewhere in Malaysia?!!?) but this is surely crazy in these times. I mean, rev-engineering and that shit went on a lot in the early days, but I didn't think it was feasible today, nevermind with the latest generation of processors!

How is it silly? They were just confirmed by newegg as counterfeit, and as a result are cutting ties with the supplier. I wouldn't say that losing a lot of $$$ is... silly for the assraped supplier in question, who are possibly going to be in legal trouble as well (if they don't pay off the police I'm guessing lulz):

I just got this LULZsale from superbiiz (former ewiz). It's kinda dirty how they're flinging shit at newegg. I wonder if other retailers are gonna follow or make snide comments:

Thats some crazy stuff but it wont stop be from buying from newegg. they may have made a serious mistake in not verifying the authenticity of the cpu's but why would anyone worry about that in this day and age. anyway they seem to be taking care of it. even shipping out replacements to everyone affected which is hurting their pocket until they inevitably get money from IPEX.

Oh yeah, I think Newegg totally "made it right" for the processor fiasco for the customers - as always. No question that their reputation hasn't been hurt a bit imo. I think this is just ridiculous though "Genuine CPU sale (har har) *All processors guaranteed to be authentic."
