I tried this cooler tonight and it's been great so far. It took about 30 minutes to install, not reading the directions, and has dropped idle temps by 12C and my case temp by 6C. I haven't tried it under load yet, but so far so good. The fans, 2 92x12cm, are not audible over the system case fans which are damn near silent. Anyway, if you have one of these video cards, this cooler is definitely worth a try.

I have never installed a custom cooler on a video card yet. I don't really see the point most of the time, because I'd rather the coolers throw air out of my case rather than recycle it in there because of the way it's set up, but good stuff if it's working for you :-)

It's been my experience, like with this one, that my card and case run cooler with the aftermarket coolers. Keep in mind that the stock 5870 fans vent inside the case too, not just out the back. At any rate, it runs 39C under load and the case max was 38C. The card still ran 10C cooler under load and the case was 7C cooler under load and I can't hear the fan unlike the vacuum cleaner that came installed on the damn thing so I'm very happy.

I can only imagine what the cooling solution on the GF470/480 will be...

Hopefully something better than the stock crap that comes with the Radeons at this point!

Okay, since I was in the mood to tinker with shit I went ahead and replaced my PSU. I installed the Enermax Revolution 1050W and got some photos of the aftermarket cooler installed.

I like that this one is modular and there's minimal cable clutter but I didn't waste much time with the cables since my replacement MB will be here on Monday and I'll put it in probably next weekend.

Anyway, I got a couple of pics if you're interested.

did you get any pics of the cooler uninstalled? Was it difficult getting the stock parts off?

No, I didn't get any pics of the cooler by itself. It wasn't difficult to install at all. The thing that took the most time was getting the heatsinks installed because I used a hairdryer to heat the thermal pads on the back before applying so they'd be sticky and stay once I put them on instead of hoping they held until I turned the PC on and it they got warm and stuck by running the video card.

It was very easy to do, just set aside 20-30 minutes to take off the stock cooler and put on the new one. I love that I don't hear the fan at all now.

Are the fans hanging into a 3rd slot - the one fan looks close to the audio.
Plain and simple your machine is looking fucking bad-ass!

I like the aftermarket cooling since Ati fans are tornados. Is there room for Crossfire?

No room for Crossfire on this motherboard, but this is the spare MB. The aftermarket cooler is about 1/8" wider with 2 92mm fans than the stock cooler. This MB only runs crossfire at 16x4 anyway. When I get my other motherboard back on Monday, there will be room for crossfire since it has 3 PCIE slots and this MB only has two and the replacement MB runs crossfire in 16x16x8.

I wasn't planning on running crossfire on this MB anyway, so it's no big deal. This is the EVGA X-58 LE board, their low end one. The one I"m getting on Monday as a replacement is the EVGA X-58 SLI which has one more PCIE slot and one more PCI slot as well.

I just saw that my EVGA X58 SLI mobo replacement was delivered today as scheduled and now I'm torn whether to swap out motherboards tonight or wait for this weekend. The smart thing to do would be to wait for this weekend, but I'm very eager to put that MB back in place and get it running.
