This was posted on another forum which I go to frequently:

I would love nothing more than to pack each and every developer into a large sack and beat the sac with a stick, and I wouldn't really care who got the worst end of the stick. DICE says that BF3 PC is getting special attention, I say PROVE IT. Make the open beta FREE, as in NOT require a preorder. Have your closed beta to test for bugs, but when you open it up to test the server infrastructure MAKE IT FREE and open to anyone with a valid email adress, and prove to us you've actually given our SKU the attention it needs to make it a TRUE PC game, truly independant from it's console counterparts. And then offer a free to play MP DEMO after release. You'd be surprised how many sales you can get by simply letting players try before they buy. If what you say is true you have nothing to lose, and nothing but great publicity to gain.

Next, FourZeroTwo has cryptically hinted with his tweets that IW knows that removing PC support and dedicated servers was a mistake. Again, I say Prove It. Free Open Beta, with free to play SP or MP demo after release and OPEN server files with full MOD TOOLS.

I'm sick of getting PR BS and Spin shoved down my throat while those spinning it act like the questions were answered. After many of conversation with John Gibson of TWI, I realise now that PR Spin only means you have something to hide. John has been nothing but open and absolutely forthcoming with answering any and all questions I've ever had. He is a developer I can respect. He's even told me some info he wanted kept secret for the time being, but only because he wants to go public with it himself at a later date. If I ask a dev a question be it on twitter or the best buy chat or even off the record, as a paying customer I expect an open and straight forward answer, if you can't give me that, get in the blank sack.

The point is, My hard earned cash will only go to devs that deserve it from now on. I'm not taking any developer at their word anymore. If you want me to believe you, show me you're not full of blank first, then I'll think about it.

Let the AAA devs know that the PC is NOT another console. We pay alot more money for our hardware and in return we expect titles that truly push the boundaries of that hardware, that innovate new never before seen game mechanics and improve on old and familiar ones. Not titles that simply emulate the second rate gaming experience the console players get while happily allowing ourselves to be nickel and dimed for locked content ALREADY on the disk. We are PC GAMERS, and PC GAMING IS OUR HOBBY, and for some of us, OUR PASSION and we will not tolerate being treated like mindless nulls with a gamepad and aim assist. We tweak, we mod, we play our way. That's how it's been and that's how we want it to stay. If you want our money, you bow to us. WE have other options, we have other devs to give our money too, other devs who are interested in pushing the industry forward, and not just cashing in on the same blank with a different name year after year. I'm done with this fishing lure PR blank

2011 is a new year, and let's make it the year that we, as paying customers, finally use our wallets to shape the industry the way we want to shape it. Support titles and devs that you think deserve it.

Excellent post!

As far as voting with your valet, home front and red orchestra 2 will see it done.

I did purchase BC2 but smashed my dvd together with my mouse the very first time I've played it. 2142 made it a week, but did not know anybody in the game back then - so went back to bf2.

you should give it a try again when that patch is released. karkand 2142 is very fun.

Heroes of stalingrad will be an awesome game. Destructible environment with 64 players and big maps.

Zomg No Prone?

But for real, they he has some good points, the sad thing is that because the FPS genre has become such a mega corperate money making arena the shit he is asking for is not going to happen unless, RO2 sells more copies than Mw2, Blackops, Halo3, and CoD4 combined. Honestly the games I just mentioned are the reason why we don't have the shit we want in games anymore (likes mod tools, public server files etc etc.) becuase the suits found a formula to create video games that successfully produces mad $$$$$$ and they are going to ride that Airtrans into the gound like a noob on the 1st day of Suez. I would'nt worry soulzz, the golden days of the FPS genre ended when the sale numbers of CoD4 and Halo3 launched. The only way that we are going to get what we really want in games is to change the flow rate of $$$$ from the corporate FPS market into the hands of the "indie" Independent game devs. It's economics dude. I am sure that there are some game devs who want to put all the stuff we want in games, but if they don't meet company deadlines, they wont have a job or food to eat. Surely if you have watched grandma's boy you know this. That and: anyone can get pass a dog, but NO ONE fucks with a Lion.

The gaming industry is very unique; don't let the publishers fool you. Anyone can make a game, with enough passion and commitment. You don't need millions, or even billions of dollars to make a great game. That's the key. In almost every other industry, you need a LOT of money and a LOT of people. In the game industry, especially indie's, 2-5 will suffice.

Having said that, yes, indie's have deadlines too. That doesn't stop them from making a quality product. I encourage all of you to pay close attention to the indie segment over the next 10-12 months. A lot of quality games will be coming out. Most of them will be so cheap that you'll be able two copies for the price of a 60 dollar game.

1. You may not need Millions, but if you want to make a profit you need to invest hours of programing and environmental architecture in order to make something that even works, much less that is even functional. Keep in mind you are paying most of these people salary. I am telling you dude, EA pumps as little as possible into their contractors in order to get the minimum results they need to meet their time line. Look how bad 2142 was rushed, and even worse was BC2. TBH dude I think most of us have lost faith in DICE to produce a "quality" product.

2. As far as indie gaming is concerned, if they are making solid and slow progress as you say they are, their final product has to compete with a major corperation, and not saying that 5 guys can't beat out a major player (Look at Apple vs IBM in 1989) but the odds of them successfully being able to produce a product without the capital that someone like EA has and compete in the market is slim. RO2 will be the determiner to see if the "Indie" gaming community can hang with the main stream, Let arnold give us some sound advice and stop with the bullshit and let the numbers do the talking when ever RO2 or whatever title it goes by is released.

I didn't put this computer together for shitty games. I do not want to spend $60 for a very crappy game that's $15 worth of effort.

I don't care what the mainstream puts out. Steam has over 30 million users, and growing. Look at Minecraft. The game was in alpha for two months; it already almost has 1 million units sold. I disagree that RO2 will be the determining factor; I know it will be successful, it's just a question of how successful.

I don't know man I think 2011 is going to be a good year for PC gaming. There are some very good titles coming to PC this year and as Fast stated about Heroes of Stalingrad. It's PC only , 64 players, and destructible environments. Not too mention this year also brings Portal 2, Mass Effect 3, Crysis 2, Dragon Age 2, Dungeons, Diablo III, Dues EX: Human Revolution, Elder Scrolls 5, and the Witcher 2. What's not to be excited about in 2011? There is going to be something for everyone.

And that's another valid point: Choice.

People want choice, and this year there will be plenty of choice.

See, this is all I want plus one more thing-makes the graphics look like they are capable of looking in 2011-that means DX11 not 9, not 8, not 10-step up, bot developers and consumers, or go away.

I want something built for the PC, the up to date PC, 64 players or more with a destructible environment. Is that too much to ask? Fuck no.

That's a fair request. I completely agree in the sense that people buy good PC's for a reason: to play games at the highest settings and to load quicker then everyone else. The problem is, developers are getting lazy, and publishers are getting greedy. Greed leads to more titles then the developer can handle, hence the buggy games and lack of support. I support most Indie's for that reason alone: greed and laziness of mainstream developers.

I want a damn good game that plays like it was built for the PC. I don't really care what kind of FPS it is, as long as I can shoot people and have fun. All I ask for is good support and PC features. I don't want to feel like I'm playing a console port and have the developer blame the user because NAT is not enabled on the router.

2011 will be a great year for PC Gaming, and it will keep on getting better each year.

I haven't bought an EA/LICE game in three years, the only reason I have BFBC2 is because my brother bought if for me. When I was done admonishing him I installed it like a good little lemming. I will never buy another EA game, and I'm looking forward to RO2 and hoping it helps spur a new line of indie games that are great. Money talks, bullshit walks. If people quit buying this shit they wouldn't keep selling it.

Exactly my point. This is the reason indie games need to get a hold of some large scale media attention. They have been doing pretty good on the blog and pod casting channel but they need something big to really pull in some amazing numbers, so EA will shit a hand grenade.

I cannot wait for ME3, and RO2's vietnam mod, which looks awesome.

Rant? Why?

Ranting is pointless when it comes to the gaming community as a whole. PC players are second rate on the money scale. Unless you play zombies vs plants or something. Or Wow.

Oh, I'm Roman by the way. Played on your server a couple of days ago. Wasn't bad. Decided to come and see what you fucks were all about. I use fucks in the most polite and honest way. Nice website.

Second rate on which scale? Indie's are the future of PC gaming :). Vote with your wallet!

indie games are a completely different target audience. indie is short for independent if you didn't know. and indie games only stay indie until someone offers enough money. then they are not indie anymore. counterstrike was indie (well, a mod at least). so was DOTA, a mod for war3. now its a full blown game owned by valve. indie basically means self funded. if these games arent self funded, doesnt that make them non indie? all the big companies started somewhere. eventually these indie companies wont be so indie anymore. popcap was like that with their little cheapo games and now that company actually makes a sizeable profit.

I know exactly what the term means. Indie's are just the same as regular developers, and have similar target audiences. The only thing indie's don't have is large marketing/development budgets. History does repeat itself, but I highly doubt that the people working under the corporate overloads that became EA, Activision, Ubisoft, and THQ are going to want the same lifestyle after leaving well known developers (DICE, Treyarch, Bethesda, id, etc) for a more enjoyable life working as an independent developer.

Now, a small percentage of them will do it to gain power, but most won't. Why would they want to work for more money if it means working as a zombie (working 90+ hours a week with no time off, and no bonuses at times). The gaming industry is in a shit storm right now because of poor work conditions/ethics.

Anyways, my point is that indie's target the same audience that mainstream games do, they just do it differently. Look at Indiedb.com and see for yourself what games are in development.
