using creative x-fi xtreme audio pci card

having all kinds of sound issues with windows 7...I have not done a full review of my razer tiamats 7.1 because this card does not like windows 7...

apparently there are third party drivers made by "daniel_k" but this card is sold old and forgotten (mistake on my part for going to compusa and not researching) that even those drivers are hard to find...

if anyone can help me tonight figure out wtf I can do or if they have a sweet sound card suggestion or heck if you have a sweet sound card you want to get rid of talk to me.

send me a pm or reply here

And this is your problem. I've said it before, I'll say it again: do yourself a favor and get rid of that crap. I haven't had any issues with my Asus Xonar card and it sounds way better than the x-fi ever did.

Creative Worldwide Support

I've got one too or at least simular. See if this one is the driver you need for it and if your sound card looks like the picture download that puppy. But if you want to buy another one I'd say go with Sixer's suggestion.

best thing i ever did was toss that crap out the window

Had to take my X-FI card out. W7 clains to have drives for it but they all suck. BF3 lags and a lot of poping. Which really hurt the ears. I had to go with the on-board :(

I had the same problem. I re-installed the drivers and everything went fine for a few months then it happened a second time. Again, I re-installed the drivers and haven't had a problem since. I'm ready to go with something else but I really didn't want to spend $200.00 on a sound card although you get what you pay for.

At times like this, I'm glad that my hearing is shot. cause I can't tell the quality difference between on-board and a sound card. ( Just for reference, I use a sound card from ASUS)

And what do you have now? On-board Audio?

Yea its optical, you would be surprised how good on board sound quality is getting with Asus..they make their own sound cards now as well that come with the motherboard I think too.

Thats always the problem with Creative these days is drivers. Though its probably windows updates doing alot of the killing just funny how they have the most problems...

Optical out = Not really onboard sound quality, Its quite a bit better if paired with a decent reciever/surround sound etc since your not amplifying it using the onboard junk and are sending out a digital signal. Your still limited to the capabilities of the chip so you might not get the 3D Positional Audio from XF-I or the ASUS GX mode. The analog out from the onboard chip is limited in power by the space they have for components and of course subject to higher noise levels and interference and usually made from low cost junk.

ASUS typically even in the upper range boards like the Maximus IV Extreme use the same old Realtek chip maybe backed up with better amplification. But if they werent already I do remember hearing news they had boards with Xonar chips coming out? I forget but seems like youve come across it as well.

I didnt say it was the greatest, I said it was getting better

To compliment what mac said, Even my old Crosshair II, has it's own Asus made audiocard.

bought it. will try it out. I did manage to download a 3rd party driver for the x-fi xtreme audio pci-e card...it shines now...and my Razer Tiamats 7.1 headphones make the game sooooo fun......its crazy....but the 5.1 which bf3 only supports... it sounds amazing.... the 7.1 from what I heard sounds really good......I bought the card and a day later fixed the "sound issue" with my current card... if my new card works like I assume it will Ill give my card away and point you in the right direction for some good drivers....the card is not bad...the official drivers just suck ass. I went with a modded driver from a guy named "PAX" google PAX creative drivers and you will find them.

I would download the latest drivers from ASUS when you get the card instead of using the CD packed with it. Not just to have the latest, because of all things when i got my DS (slightly lesser model, main difference is PCI) the driver it came with actually FUBAR'd the OS, took some work to fix it couldn't launch ANY browser installed on the system.... Never heard of it before but wouldn't want to see it happen again. Driver roll back in safe mode for the most part helped. But just installing the update driver didnt fix it had to roll back. Its bad when your ship driver is really really not good.

Never had an issue out of mine since.

yea i never use cd drivers unless its for a printer or something similar lol.... by the way I was told to go with 3rd party drivers...just like I did with my x-fi xtreme audio pci-e card. the creative ones sucked ass downloaded 3rd party drivers and wala...works. People who put out 3rd party drivers unlock certain capabilities that the card can do, but some companies limit those capabilities just so they can sell different flavors of the card...I read that on a lot of forums its sad how customers like us get duped. More good news I Purchased another 4gb of ram which I think has been long overdue lol.

ok installed the xonar and 3rd party drivers - thank you sixer... the difference in sound quality is so obvious...my ears where dancing to one of my favorite songs.
