Would only like to spend about $300. Trying not to blow all my money, want the best bang for the buck possible. Here are the cards I was looking at.

I was also looking at a few R9 290X just because I've seen some sub $300 or very close to. Only thing is most say they "require" a 750W PSU. Mine is only 650W. Don't really know though. I've been out of the loop for a bit.

I would go with nvidia just because less hassle with drivers. With that PSU nvidia would also be a better choice

GTX 970 requires 500W PSU and runs a shit ton, about 28C cooler than the AMD 290X. If you live in a cold climate that might not matter but between the PSU, electricity used, and heat difference I'd get the 970 with a custom cooler and call it a day.

You guys have a brand of nvidia you like? This is my first ever Nvidia card. There are some 970's on Newegg cheaper than those. MSI and ASUS and EVGA are the only brands I really know.

I like EVGA for the custom cards, but I've also used Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, and XFX (when they still sold Nvidia) and never had a problem with any of them.

Edit: the only cards I won't use are PNY because historically and currently they run hotter than the same version of other manufacturers.

Gigabyte and evga are nice ones.

I have the gigabyte wind force shit. Its amazing

You can't go wrong with any of those, though the EVGA one is clocked slightly higher. Still, all of these should be able to hit 1450mhz easy despite what the package says.

I just got a 970 today, installed hour or so ago after some issues its working great!

Yeah and be sure to register it within 90 days for warranty coverage. I always opt for the advanced cross shipping when I register, because that's the only time you can do that. If you do the cross shipping, if something ever goes wrong with the card you call them, get an RMA number, they'll send you a new card with a shipping label and you just send in the defective one within 60 days. It's well worth doing. I've only had to use that once on a GPU and once on one of their motherboards but that way you're up and running quick if something should happen to the videocard.

I just got my EVGA 970 today. Besides updating my BIOS so it would post I have 0 issues and I couldn't be happier. This is my first high end card/pc build I've ever done. It's all worth it. The card is a beast. I haven't even OCd it and I get 100-130 FPS on Ultra. Everything I buy is EVGA/Corsair. So you can't go wrong with an EVGA card. I also have a Corsair HX 750 and the fan won't even kick on while running BF4. The card doesn't require shit for power.

I'm considering picking one up soon.
