Building a new computer in a week or 2 and trying to decide what will be a really good graphics card from nVidia GeForce that I should get that will be excellent but still with a decent price tag. What do you guys think is worth it?

In all honesty, despite all the Ragging on the 970, I will still be buying one. I can't justify spending the extra money on my budget.

That's what I have been saying from teh Get-go with all this noise and bullshit. The main thing I understand is people say it's lying to call it a 4GB card, when it can have issues using the last .5 gb. There is another thread about it.

I have a 970 and it is fantastic.

so better off saving the 250$ and stick to EVGA Superclocked ACX 2.0 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 4GB GDDR5 PCIe 3.0 x16 Video Card (Maxwell)?

How bout the motherboard, what would you guys suggest?

together with a Intel® Core™ i7-4790K 4.0 GHz 8MB Intel Smart Cache LGA1150

I completely disagree here. It's a $220.00 difference and if you're building this for gaming then the GPU is really the heart of the rig these days. Most games are GPU dependent, not CPU. So while it's nice to have a kick ass CPU, it's the video card that matters more these days and I'd rather put the money on a good one that runs faster. Yeah, it costs more but it also sells for more when the time comes to upgrade, which makes getting the next nice one that much more affordable.

I love the Asus Maximus Hero VII Z97 MB. It OCs like crazy, has lots of fan connectors, bios options, and just flat out works well. The onboard sound is better than most but still sucks in comparison to a dedicated sound card.

Edit: the 980 is actually $206.00 more than the 970

Something else to think about-If you get the EVGA 970 you might be able to do the step up program to a 980 for $160. I'd check on that first, but it'd be a little bit cheaper way to do the same thing if more roundabout also.

EVGA 970. Hands down. I wouldn't jump into a 980 unless you have the $$ to toss around and plan on playing in Res over 1080.. Also as sixer stated you can do the Step up program like I have and pay the difference and get a 980. If you're strapped on cash a 960 will hold it's own but you will not be playing full Ultra @ 1080 with over 60 FPS.

Ye i rather save that difference from 970 to 980 and use that amount towards other prospects to increase my PC use and speed

Yea, You'll be 100% satisfied with a 970. I do believe almost everyone here runs a 970 and a couple have 980s.

I am one of the odd ones using 770gtx with 4 gigs of memory version. 4 gigs version helps out a bit more and more future proof (i think im still good for another year and half running most things on high). Also my card is slightly over clocked :)

But can't go wrong with 970 stock.

Yea, You'll definitely be good for awhile longer. No real reason to upgrade unless you need the newest shit or you can sell your 770 to cut the price you'll pay for a 970. Hell I wish I would have waited a week when purchasing my 970. A few members here are selling their 770s, For the price I could have got 2 of those and ran SLI and would have been good till BF5 comes out at least.

You can't go wrong with most Z97 MoBos. Really just comes down to the features and how much cash you're looking at spending. I just built my PC and you can check the specs here http://www.tbgclan.com/threads/finished-build-kind-of.35782/ . The Asus RoG Maximus Hero 7 MoBo is pretty amazing on features and you can't beat Asus quality for the price of the MoBo.

Link to Amazon for the MoBo-

Asus site if you want more info-

Edit- I should also give you a heads up that the Asus Hero MoBo I'm using is listed as a ATX but is technically a EATX board. So make sure you have enough room in a case if you decide on that board. It fits in my case, but I will have to purchase a new one because of how tight everything is. You can see this from the pictures on my thread.
