Who here works in some sort of IT

"Working in IT" is very vague. I work for one of the largest Healthcare IT companies in the US. I'm an analyst who supports a very specific piece of software. Is my job in "IT". Yes. No. Maybe?

I have strong technical aptitude (to a point) but I have a criminal justice degree and no certs. (the job now requires a technical degree to get hired...). Some places will just require a degree or technical degree and do on the job training. Others may not care about a degree but want CERTs and knowledge. Get an idea of the kind of work you might like to do. Then get the certs (if needed) and get a job. That job might not get you the job you want right away. But it will get you experience. It is also a lot easier to move once you are inside a company than when you are on the outside, and once you are in the industry. I worked at a very very small software company for 2 and a half years before getting this job with the large company. The only reason I even got a phone interview was because of my experience at the small software company.

TLDR: Dream Big, but be willing to work hard and maybe not get what you want right away. good luck!!
