I'm building a new computer this summer to run some new games, plus replace my old terrible laptop. Its a budget build, not the 1000+ rigs you all build. I would like some thoughts on what I have picked out here. Also, some suggestions on what Operating System I should get, 32 or 64 bit. Thanks.

I'd change the PSU, but I'm picky when it comes to the PSU. Once you've had one burn out on you and damage your other components it makes you think twice about a little extra for a quality PSU. Mushkin has a very good rated 650w Volta available for $49.00 with free shipping from ramexperts.com: Mushkin MKNPSVT650 POWER SUPPLY Volta 650W PSU RAM Experts

That would give you a little more headroom and, for me, the sense of security that I don't have to worry about the psu frying my setup.

Also, Microcenter has a Kingwin 650 for $47.99 with $5.99 shipping that would be a decent choice as well: http://cart.microcenter.com/cart.aspx

Also, I'd go for a case with better cooling NZXT has a very good option for you here at $34.99 It has room for 4 120mm fans and two 140mm on top. It comes stock with only one 120mm fan but you can add more as you go and your budget allows.

This case would give you more room, a better layout, and better cooling for about the same price as the one you have listed. 80mm fans just don't push that much air.

Also, for the same money why not get a quad core cpu? Microcenter has the AMD phenomIIx4 840 for $99.00 which would give you better performance and allow you a longer life before replacement. http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0357031

For the OS go 64.

Hmm...thats going to add around 30 or so.
Guess I'm gonna need to find some more money.

Only problem with that is any brand, any price, any model will end up doing it to someone. Which is what always scares the shit out of me. Finally got around to looking up the Mushkin brand, not bad just had kept seeing them and didnt know who they hell they were.

I came across that case before too kinda liked it.

Nice! Good luck with the build and don't forget to check Microcenter for the x4 cpu since it's the same price as the x2 you have listed.

That's true too. I had a very nice Seasonic 600w I stressed to hard and it burned out. Fortunately it didn't hurt my system but there's always a lemon in the bunch.

To be honest, memory is memory. As long as the price is good, you should buy it. It's easy to make, and the performance from lower latency is much less then it used to be. Looks like you got good RAM, though :).

The processor I listed was Quad Core. p:

But thats a good find Sixer. Pay the same amount but get 3.2 Ghz instead of 3.0?
Yes please.

Vengeance, you should try Google for getting the best prices, and not just one shopping site. You'd be surprised at the deals you can get, as long as the site is reputable.

Duh! Okay, call me captain oblivious! But yeah, a little extra speed for the same cash is always a good deal :)

Yeah. I figured one site would be simplest. I may look at some other sites for a hard drive, see if I can find it slightly cheaper to save a little $$$.

Looking at the motherboard, I believe it would be able to run this new CPU?
CPU is a Phenom II X4, Motherboard is rated for X6.

I missed you comment on the OS. What is the advantage to 64? I know it can run 64 and 32 bit programs, but I've heard it has problems at times with 32 bit stuff. (Battlefield for one)

Newegg is usually around the lowest prices; but, I've bought a few things off ebay if your worried about slicing pennies.

I like having the ability to use more than 4gb memory and it's faster in games and benchmarks for the 64. I've never encountered any difficulties with 32bit games or programs as the 64 can run them in "xp mode"

Also, if you buy the 64 version it comes with both the 32bit and 64bit disk so you get two for one. If you don't want to run the 64 at least you've got it if you ever change your mind.

Battlefield what? Running 2142 BF2 and Bad Company 2 + Vietnam here on 64 bit. Other than bugs that just plain exist nothing really stands out on Vista 64 or 7 64. Cant say I have had an issue with anything that wasnt like 16 bit lol.
