I want to upgrade my current computer but unfortunately I am a computer newb and Wikipedia fails to answer all my questions, can any of you guys tell me if a AM3 socket processor will work in an AM2+ motherboard? Also Will a PCi-e 2.1 card work in a PCi-e 2.0 slot? Thanks in advance! :P

Edit: Oh yeah and a few graphics cards I was looking at had GDDR3 RAM, my motherboard uses DDR2, but does that matter? Will a graphics card using GDDR3 RAM work?

depands on the model number and brand of the broad, some will some older ones wont. thats is for your first question, am2+ am3
maybe a little more detail on what you are trying to do might help understand the answer you are looking for.

Manufacturer: Pegatron

Motherboard Name: M2N68-LA

HP/Compaq motherboard name: Narra5-GL6

Won't work unfortunately. Are you sure the cpu is the bottleneck in your system currently? Maybe its the Vid card and RAM or something else.

Hmm reading that now Soulzz, but I found it would not work in his specific Mobo.

I have no idea, but this computer wasn't meant for gaming. Just trying to get it to work with bfbc2 and some of the other new games I have, also kinda want to run fraps in something better than low detail as well... :P

This is my computer:
Compaq Presario CQ5110F Desktop PC - Product Specifications
I also upgraded the Power supply (to 530w) and the graphics card (ATi HD Radeon 4530 OC) but I want to buy a better card so I can give my current one to my little brother, that way he can play something other than runescape or counter strike with me. xD

Sonar, how much are you willing to allocate for these parts? If it's over 500 dollars, you might as well get a new PC :).

Just 100$ for a better processor and a better graphics card nothing major because I am on a budget.
I think since I can't use AM3 I am going with my first choice, but as for the graphics card I am still looking around. Sort of interested in the Radeon HD 5450 and 5550 cards but I still need to know if the PCi-e 2.1 and GDD3 RAM graphics card will work with my Motherboard. Otherwise I will look for something that uses only PCi-e 2.0 and DDR2 RAM.

When I get home, I'll build you a PC on Newegg for ~550. That includes the GPU, CPU, MOBO, and RAM.

Lol, I can't afford 500$ right now, I have to use what I've got for now... At least until I can find myself a job, then I will start looking into custom built budget computers. :P

I don't think you will get much bang for your buck;
just give soulzz 100 bucks and he will give you a ride of your life.
